Called up, starting Wednesday Matos was called up from Triple-A Sacramento and he will start in center field and bat second Wednesday versus the Cardinals, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact Matos is set to make his major-league debut Wednesday after posting a .389 batting average with seven homers, 20 RBI, 21 runs scored and six stolen bases over 108 at-bats in 24 games with Sacramento this season. With Mitch Haniger (forearm) expected to miss a significant amount of time, Matos could carve out a role for himself in the Giants' lineup if he can remain hot in the majors.

Removed from Triple-A game Matos was removed from Tuesday's game for Triple-A Sacramento in the third inning, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact This does not appear to be related to injury for Matos, but rather a potential call-up for the young outfielder after Mitch Haniger (undisclosed) was removed from Tuesday's game after being hit by a pitch. Matos has hit .398 with a 1.120 OPS for Sacramento, and is widely considered one of the best hitting prospects in the San Francisco system. He'd be worth a roster add in the majority of formats if he does receive a promotion to the 26-man active roster.

Rises to Triple-A Matos was promoted from Double-A Richmond to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.
Impact Matos will likely make his Triple-A debut Wednesday. The outfield prospect showed a great eye at the plate in Double-A, posting a 12.8 percent walk rate and a 9.0 percent strikeout rate over 31 contests. He slashed .304/.398/.443 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 18 runs scored and nine stolen bases. He's enjoyed a fairly quick rise through the minors, and there's at least a slight chance he could be summoned for his major-league debut at some point this summer.

Optioned out of camp The Giants optioned Matos to minor-league camp Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact The 21-year-old outfield prospect slashed .211/.275/.344 through 407 plate appearances with High-A Eugene last season and has already shown enough potential to warrant a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster. Matos went 6-for-24 at the plate this spring with a home run, and he will likely return to Eugene for the start of 2023 with a shot at reaching Double-A at some point.
