Impact Rengifo gave the Angels a 4-0 cushion in the third inning when he connected for a two-run blast off Houston starter Luis Garcia. He also picked up an RBI earlier in the game with a run-scoring groundout in the first. It's been a difficult year offensively for Rengifo, who is hitting .183 in 111 plate appearances, but he's come alive over his last five games with a 6-for-16 (.375) run and a pair of homers.

He had been struggling since his last long ball, entering Tuesday with a .140 average and only two RBI over his previous 57 at-bats.

Impact Rengifo was sent to Triple-A at the start of August and will return to the majors with rosters expanding for the final month of the season. The 24-year-old has a .151/.189/.233 slash line in 91 plate appearances this season but could receive another look down the stretch.

Bound for minors The Angels optioned Rengifo to Triple-A Salt Lake following Saturday's 1-0 win over the Athletics.

Impact Rengifo hadn't started a game since July 20, and because the 24-year-old switch-hitting utility man is still seen as having some developmental upside, the Angels will send him to Triple-A to receive regular at-bats. Los Angeles recalled Kean Wong from Triple-A to fill Rengifo's role as a reserve infielder.

Impact Justin Upton's (back) absence from the lineup will clear the way for Rengifo to receive his second turn in as leadoff hitter in four days. Rengifo will also be making his sixth consecutive start, including his fourth in a row in right field. He's gone 5-for-20 with a home run and three RBI over that stretch, but it's unclear if that will be enough for him to maintain a regular role ahead of Juan Lagares, who looks like Rengifo's primary competition for a spot in the everyday lineup.
