Hits pinch-hit home run Urias hit a pinch-hit home run in Friday's victory over Seattle.
Impact Urias lost out on a starting job at both third base and second base this spring, but will be used in a utility infield role. The 27-year-old slashed only .191/.303/.394 in 41 games with Seattle last season but clubbed 39 home runs for the Brewers from 2021 to 2022.
MARCH 29 • ROTOWIRE
Signs on with A's Urias agreed to contract terms with the Athletics on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact It's not yet clear whether it's a major- or minor-league deal, but Urias already has a locker set up at the team's spring training complex in Arizona. The 27-year-old slashed only .191/.303/.394 in 41 games with Seattle last season but clubbed 39 home runs for the Brewers from 2021 to 2022. He could compete with Gio Urshela for reps at third base.
FEBRUARY 17 • ROTOWIRE
Becomes free agent Urias elected free agency Friday.
Impact He cleared waivers after being removed from the Mariners' 40-man roster and has decided not to accept an outright assignment. Urias, 27, managed just a .191/.303/.394batting line in 41 games with Seattle this season.
NOVEMBER 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Draws rare start Sunday Urias drew his first start since Sept. 4 in Sunday's win over the Rangers and went 0-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch and a run.
Impact Urias was making his first appearance of any kind since that game, one in which he'd rapped out three extra-base hits and knocked in four runs. Despite that stellar performance, Urias had not been able to crack the starting nine again with Josh Rojas healthy and getting regular run at the hot corner. Urias limped to a .152 average and .580 OPS across his first 35 games at the big-league level this season before being demoted to Triple-A Tacoma, but he'd earned a call back up by posting a strong .260 average and .789 OPS across 78 games with the Rainiers.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Huge performance in win Urias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored while also drawing a walk in Wednesday's win over the Athletics.
Impact Urias brought home Mitch Garver with an RBI double in the top of the fourth before coming around to score himself on a Dylan Moore single as the Mariners took a 5-1 lead. The infielder then added a leadoff homer in the seventh to extend the lead, followed by another RBI double in the eighth, giving him his first three-hit performance of the campaign, as well as his first hits since being promoted to the majors last week. Urias' four RBI on the night also marked a season high.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Promoted from Tacoma The Mariners selected Urias' contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Urias has been swinging a hot bat at Tacoma recently, slashing .333/.434/.578 with three homers, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored over 53 plate appearances across his last 12 games. His uptick in production has now been rewarded with a spot on the active roster, though he will have to compete for playing time at third base with Josh Rojas. In corresponding moves, Gabe Speier was optioned to Triple-A, and Terrin Vavra was designated for assignment.
AUGUST 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Swinging blistering bat in Tacoma Urias, who was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on May 24, sports a .382 average and 1.093 OPS across 40 plate appearances over his last nine games with the Rainiers.
Impact Urias has been a mainstay for the Triple-A club since his demotion, but his current stretch, which includes two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, five walks, a stolen base and 11 runs, has easily been his best yet while down on the farm. The hot hitting also bears zero resemblance to Urias' performance with the big-league club earlier this season, for which he limped to a .152/.264/.316 slash line across 34 games. Urias exclusively played third base while with the Mariners but has plenty of big-league experience at second base and shortstop as well; however, if new manager Dan Wilson wants to see what the veteran might be able to offer down the stretch, Urias will have to regain a spot on the 40-man roster after being removed from it back on June 4.
AUGUST 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Gets another start Wednesday Urias will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Impact Urias will stick in the lineup for the seventh time in eight games, but most of his playing time came while infielders J.P. Crawford (oblique) and Jorge Polanco (hamstring) were both out with injuries. Crawford and Polanco are both starting Wednesday, but the Mariners will have room in the lineup for Urias with the left-handed-hitting Josh Rojas hitting the bench against Yankees southpaw Nestor Cortes. Assuming both Crawford and Polanco are in the clear to handle everyday roles moving forward, Urias looks like he'll be relegated to the short side of a platoon with Rojas.
MAY 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Saturday vs. Boston Urias is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact Urias has struggled in his first two starts of the season, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Josh Rojas will start at third base and bat ninth Saturday against Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford.
MARCH 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Playing third base Tuesday Urias (shoulder) is starting at third base and batting seventh for the Mariners in Tuesday's Cactus League contest against the Rangers, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM repo...
Impact Urias has started some games at designated hitter, but this is his first time playing the field this spring as he comes back from right shoulder soreness. There had been some concern that the infielder might not be ready in time for Opening Day, but with more than three weeks until that date, Urias should be fine for March 28 if he can avoid setbacks.
MARCH 5, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Traded to Seattle The Mariners acquired Urias from the Red Sox on Friday in exchange for Isaiah Campbell, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Urias was likely going to be non-tendered by the Red Sox ahead of Friday's deadline had this trade not come together. He posted a disappointing .194/.337/.299 batting line over 177 plate appearances this past year between Milwaukee and Boston, but the former top prospect is only 26 years old and could be a platoon option at second base for the Mariners in 2024.
NOVEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on injured list The Red Sox placed Urias on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left calf strain, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Impact Urias' placement on the injured list is backdated to Thursday, so he'll still be eligible to return for the final game of the season Oct. 1. While Urias is out, Pablo Reyes and Ceddanne Rafaela figure to see an increase in playing time, and Enmanuel Valdez will come up from Triple-A Worcester to fill Urias' roster spot.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting out with calf injury Urias (calf) is absent from the lineup for Friday's tilt against the White Sox.
Impact Urias tweaked his left calf during Wednesday's game versus the Rangers and isn't ready to play even after Thursday's off day. Ceddanne Rafaela is covering second base for the Red Sox.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Exits with calf tightness Urias was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to left calf tightness, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact The 26-year-old has recently been working as Boston's primary second baseman and went 1-for-3 with a strikeout before leaving Wednesday's contest. Urias will have a team day off Thursday to recover before Friday's series opener versus the White Sox.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Gaining traction at keystone Urias will start at second base and bat eighth Monday against the Rangers.
Impact Urias will stick in the lineup for the sixth time in seven games and looks to have usurped Pablo Reyes as the Red Sox's preferred option at the keystone. The 26-year-old hasn't seemed to earn the extra playing time based on his performance, however; he's slashing just .185/.313/.259 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate thus far in September.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Losing work to Valdez Urias is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Impact On the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher (Zach Eflin) for the third time in four games, Urias looks as though he could be moving into a short-side platoon role at second base. The lefty-hitting Enmanuel Valdez will get another look at the keystone Tuesday after going 2-for-7 with a walk and two RBI between his last two starts.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sits in second straight Urias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact Urias is on the bench for a second straight game and looks as though he may not be handed an everyday role at the keystone while the Red Sox await Pablo Reyes' (elbow) return from the 10-day injured list. Enmanuel Valdez will pick up another start at second base after going 1-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's 9-5 win.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Riding pine Saturday Urias is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals.
Impact Urias is hitting .179 with more walks (six) than strikeouts (five) and one home run over his last 10 games. Enmanuel Valdez will start at the keystone while batting ninth.
SEPTEMBER 2, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Moves to bench Tuesday Urias is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.
Impact After reaching base in three of his five plate appearances in Monday's 13-5 loss to Houston, Urias will give way to David Hamilton at second base Tuesday. While Pablo Reyes (elbow) is on the shelf, Urias is still likely to see the bulk of the starts at the keystone.
AUGUST 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Could be primary second baseman Urias will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Astros, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Impact Urias will get his third straight start, this time manning second base after filling in for Rafael Devers (wrist) in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Dodgers. Though Devers is back in the lineup Monday, Urias looks like he could operate as the Red Sox's primary option at the keystone in the short term after Pablo Reyes (elbow) was moved to the 10-day injured list. Since being acquired from the Brewers on Aug. 1 and joining Boston a few days later, Urias is slashing .213/.339/.383 with two home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs through his first 16 games with the Red Sox.
AUGUST 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Launches another grand slam Urias started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a grand slam in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Yankees.
Impact Urias belted his second grand slam in as many games. Thursday's granny came on his final at-bat, and Saturday's shot came on the first pitch of his first plate appearance, giving him grand slams on consecutive pitches, the first Red Sox player to achieve that feat. Since Trevor Story came off the 60-day injured list in early August, Urias has shared second base with Pablo Reyes.

Makes game interesting Urias went 2-for-3 with a grand slam in Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Nationals.
Impact The Red Sox were getting rolled by Washington until Urias and Rafael Devers each homered as part of a six-run seventh inning. Urias, who shares second base with Pablo Reyes and slots in at the bottom of the order, is batting .250 (7-for-28) since being called up at the beginning of August.
