Shaky in debut Weaver allowed four runs on three hits and three walks over 1.1 innings in Friday's spring training start against the Angels.

Impact Weaver also threw a wild pitch during his Cactus League debut. The right-hander told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that he was "caught in between" in an effort to incorporate a mechanical adjustment from earlier in the week. Weaver was trying to create more stability with his landing leg, but he made it sound like he's going to scrap the adjustment the next time out. He's penciled in as the fourth starter but could move up a spot if Zac Gallen (shoulder) isn't available when the regular season kicks off.

Signs without arbiter Weaver and the Diamondbacks agreed to terms on a one-year, $2.875 million contract Tuesday, avoiding arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact Weaver will get a raise of just shy of $1 million in his second year of arbitration eligibility. He finished with an unremarkable 4.25 ERA in 13 starts last season, though that represented a big step forward from the 6.58 ERA he managed the year prior.

Impact Weaver made his first start since May 16 after landing on the 60-day injured list with a rotator cuff strain. The 27-year-old only managed four whiffs and three strikeouts, so he certainly wasn't overpowering with his pitches, but he was able to limit the Padres to just four hits, with Trent Grisham's solo homer being the only tally against him. Weaver is down to a 4.11 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB over 46 innings and is certainly an appealing streamer for the final month of the season. He currently lines up for an enticing matchup against the Rangers next week.

Impact Weaver suffered a rotator cuff strain in mid-May and has slowly been working his way back ever since. He began a rehab assignment in early August, with him most recently working up to 73 pitches in his latest outing with Triple-A Reno on Aug. 20. The team had previously expressed a desire to give him one more minor-league start after he spent seven days in COVID protocols, but he'll instead return to a major-league mound for his next outing Wednesday. Given his lengthy absence and the fact that he hasn't pitched in a live game in over 10 days, Weaver seems likely to be on a strict pitch count during his return.
