Placed on 10-day IL Pina was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation Thursday, retroactive to April 25.
Impact Pina didn't appear in the last two games, and he was apparently unavailable due to his wrist injury. He'll be eligible to return as early as May 6 against the Brewers, but it's not yet clear how much time he'll need to recover. William Contreras was recalled by Atlanta to serve as the No. 2 catcher in Pina's absence.

Impact Pina wasn't available for Atlanta's Grapefruit League finale April 5 due to a sore left wrist, but the team's decision to carry him on the season-opening 28-man roster seemingly implied that the injury wasn't anything worrisome. Travis d'Arnaud or William Contreras had started behind the plate in each of Atlanta's first four games, but with both resting Monday, Pina will enter the lineup for his 2022 debut.

Signs with Atlanta Pina joined Atlanta on a two-year, $8 million contract Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Impact Pina had a strange season at the plate in 2021. His .162 BABIP limited his batting average to just .189, but he had a nearly average 95 wRC+ thanks to a career-best .250 ISO and hit 13 homers in 208 plate appearances. He's mostly performed at a backup level throughout his career and should fill that role behind Travis d'Arnaud for at least two more seasons and possibly a third, as Atlanta also gets a $4 million team option for 2024 as part of the deal.

Impact Pina smashed a solo shot off Andrew Miller in the seventh to provide Milwaukee with an insurance run Wednesday night. While Omar Narvaez (the Brewers' primary catcher) is hitting just .194 with no home runs in September, Pina has gotten hot. The backup backstop is hitting .269 with four long balls over that same span. Late September is not an opportune time to be messing around with your battery, but if Pina keeps hitting like this, expect to see him get some at-bats in the postseason.
