Impact The Rangers skipper mentioned Church as a possible closer candidate earlier in camp, and his impressive strikeout stuff certainly warrants him being in that conversation. However, the 23-year-old righty finished Cactus League play with four runs allowed in 8.2 innings, so save opportunities will likely be split between Luke Jackson, Chris Martin and Robert Garcia to begin the season.

Recalled by Texas The Rangers recalled Church from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Impact Church will have an opportunity to make his MLB debut out of the Rangers' bullpen this weekend against the Angels. The 23-year-old right-hander battled through a right shoulder strain for much of the season, but he returned from Round Rock's 60-day injured list in mid-August. In his 11 Triple-A outings since being reinstated from the IL, Church posted a 2.87 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB over 15.2 innings.

Impact Church was placed on the 7-day injured list April 18 due to a right shoulder strain and was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 1. Impact Church registered a 3.63 ERA and 79:38 K:BB over 62 innings this past season between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. The 22-year-old relief prospect is now protected from next month's Rule 5 Draft and could make his major-league debut at some point in 2024.
