Aiming for late April return The Mariners are optimistic Brash (elbow) can make his 2025 season debut by the end of April, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reports.

Impact Brash had an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in early May, so a return by April would be aggressive. However, he's been working out at the team's spring training complex in Arizona and is considered ahead of schedule in his recovery. Brash was dynamite out of Seattle's bullpen in 2023, posting a 3.06 ERA and 107:29 K:BB across 70.2 innings. Once healthy, he will serve in a leverage relief role for the Mariners.

Impact As was the case when he dropped by in early August, Brash's visit will allow him to reconnect with the big-league medical and training staff, as well as meet personally with new manager Dan Wilson. Brash was already engaging in plyometric exercises on a trampoline when he was last in Seattle several weeks ago, and there have been no reports of any setbacks as he aims for a pre-All-Star-break return in 2025.

Impact Brash has been taking a brief respite from rehabilitation activities and reconnecting with the big-league staff and teammates, but he'll be heading to Arizona for what will be a closely monitored start to his throwing program. Brash has already been engaged in one-handed pitch-and-catch plyometric exercises on a trampoline, and he reports being very pleased with the pace of the early stages of his recovery and the way he's felt while carrying it out. Due to the fact Brash had an internal brace procedure instead of a full Tommy John surgery, his recovery isn't expected to take much more than 12 months, leaving him with a chance to be back in action by June 2025.

Set to begin throwing next month Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Wednesday that Brash (elbow) will begin a throwing program in mid-August, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Impact Brash underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery May 8 but looks to be progressing well in the early stages of his rehab. He shed a protective brace on his elbow a little over a month ago and will take the first meaningful step forward in his recovery when he begins throwing in a few weeks. If he continues to experience no setbacks with his throwing program late in the season and throughout the offseason, Brash could be ready to face hitters by the end of spring training, but he'll still almost certainly open the 2025 campaign on the injured list.

Impact The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Kirby Snead. Brash's status remains unclear following a setback with his right elbow a couple weeks ago, but he now won't be eligible to return until late May.

Impact He also upped the intensity of his throwing, per Mariners general manager Justin Hollander. While there remains no timetable for Brash's return, he is coming along nicely as he works his way back from right elbow inflammation. He shouldn't be too far off from a rehab assignment.

Impact Brash has now upped his throwing distance to 110 feet after hitting the 90-foot threshold early in the week. The next step for Brash is to progress to begin throwing off a mound, and once he's successfully completed that phase of his rehabilitation, he's likely to log game action at the minor-league level before being deemed ready to face big-league hitters.

The right-hander continues to primarily see seventh- and eighth-inning work, although he's arguably been more trustworthy overall in the last month-plus than primary closer Andres Munoz. If the Mariners do make it into the postseason, how manager Scott Servais distributes high-leverage assignments will be something to monitor.

Impact The Mariners bullpen as a whole was called on for extended duty Sunday after starter Emerson Hancock was forced from the game following two innings due to a shoulder strain. The urgency was compounded when Taylor Saucedo, who relieved Hancock, failed to retire a batter while giving up five runs, but Brash was one of multiple relievers to pick up the slack. He got his four outs on a relatively efficient 23 pitches while posting his second straight scoreless appearance after allowing runs in back-to-back appearances against the Royals last Monday and on Wednesday. Brash had recorded saves in each of his two most recent outings, so he continues to be one of the more versatile bullpen options for manager Scott Servais and an increasingly valuable fantasy asset as a result.

Impact Brash has followed up a nine-inning scoreless streak with three runs allowed over his last 1.1 frames. He took a blown save and loss Monday against the Royals, but he was able to maintain the lead this time around with Andres Munoz down following a 42-pitch outing Tuesday. Brash is up to three saves, 17 holds, five blown saves, a 3.46 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 85:22 K:BB through 52 innings this season. The Mariners' late-inning relievers have been shaky this week across the board, so Brash's individual struggles aren't likely to cost him high-leverage chances just yet.
