Lands with Twins Shoemaker signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Twins on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The 34-year-old will compete with the likes of Randy Dobnak and Devin Smeltzer for the Twins' fifth starter job and seemingly stands a decent chance to win it. He owns a 3.77 ERA backed up by a solid combination of a 23.5 percent strikeout rate and 7.9 percent walk rate over the last three seasons. The odds of him remaining in the rotation all year seem very slim, however, as injuries have limited him to just six starts per year over that stretch. He hasn't even reached 15 starts in a season since all the way back in 2016.

Three strong innings Tuesday Shoemaker threw three scoreless innings Tuesday while allowing two hits and striking out two in a no-decision against the Rays in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Round.
Impact Shoemaker looked strong in his second outing since returning from a lat strain, throwing 27 of his 35 pitches for strikes. The right-hander recorded a 4.71 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 5.95 FIP in 28.2 innings of work during the regular season. The 34-year-old has been restricted to three innings of work in both of his outings since his return.

Impact It was a short start for Shoemaker, as he was only built up to throw a maximum of 60 pitches after being held out since Aug. 21 with a lat strain. He was able to log three innings on 54 pitches, allowing an RBI single to Gio Urshela in the second inning. The right-hander exited with the Blue Jays leading 5-1, but did not qualify for the win.
