Jesús Aguilar - Reaches deal with Fish Aguilar and the Marlins agreed Tuesday on a one-year, $7.3 million contract to avoid arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Impact The deal also contains a mutual option or $200,000 buyout for 2023 that escalates to $250,000 if Aguilar receives 550 plate appearances in 2022. Following a 2021 campaign in which he hit .261 with 22 home runs, 93 RBI and 49 runs in 131 games, Aguilar is expected to handle an everyday role for the Marlins once again in 2022. Manager Don Mattingly said earlier this spring that Aguilar is slated to split time between first base and designated hitter, with Garrett Cooper typically picking up starts at the other spot, according to Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com.

Eury Pérez - Opening at Double-A Perez will begin his age-19 season at Double-A, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
Impact The term "phenom" really applies to Perez, whom Mish has said stacks up with prior young Marlins pitching savants Josh Beckett and Jose Fernandez. Perez probably won't get to the majors this year, but we can't rule it out. If he stays healthy, he will likely spend his entire age-20 season in the majors and could open next year as the top pitching prospect in the game.

Elieser Hernandez - Escapes with bruised forearm Hernandez was diagnosed with a bruised right forearm after he exited Tuesday's Grapefruit League start against the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Hernandez was fortunate to avoid a more serious injury after his throwing arm was on the receiving end of a line drive off the bat of Tyler O'Neill that had an exit velocity of more than 105 miles per hour. Assuming Hernandez isn't dealing with too much soreness from the bruised arm during a scheduled bullpen session later in the week, he should still be part of the Marlins' season-opening rotation. Hernandez was tentatively lined up to start the Marlins' third game of the season Sunday in San Francisco, but he could be pushed to the back of the rotation order if manager Don Mattingly wants to give the right-hander more time to heal up.

The pitcher was immediately evaluated by a trainer and removed from the game. Hernandez is projected for a spot at the back of the Marlins' rotation to begin the season and was having a good spring, but as yet there's no word on the severity this injury.

Jesús Sánchez - Begins year as top center fielder Sanchez will open the season as the Marlins' everyday center fielder, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Impact According to Heyman, the Marlins had been canvassing the trade market for potential options in center field this offseason, but Sanchez's solid spring has apparently but any pursuit of an upgrade on the backburner. Though he's managed an underwhelming .648 OPS in Grapefruit League play, Sanchez has handled center field capably on defense to secure his spot atop the depth chart. Sanchez has hit out of the No. 3 spot in his most recent three spring starts and appears likely to occupy that slot int he order once the regular season gets underway.

Impact The slugger took Chris Bassitt deep in the first inning for his first homer this spring. Soler has been getting a look in the leadoff spot for manager Don Mattingly, an unorthodox choice given his power and .316 OBP last season, but the 30-year-old did post a .354 mark in that category in 2019 for the Royals. If he sticks atop the lineup, Soler would likely trade some RBI for runs over the course of the season, but the Marlins' batting order could be fluid all year.

Jacob Stallings - Gearing up for Opening Day Stallings went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.
Impact The veteran catcher is hitting a lackluster .235 (4-for-17) this spring, but Stallings' spot at the top of the Marlins' depth chart isn't in jeopardy. The 32-year-old's defense will keep him behind the plate most days, and he did post a career-high eight homers and 53 RBI last year for the Pirates before an offseason trade.

Impact Quinn's ability to play center field could have convinced the Marlins to select his contract to keep him around in a bench role, but he didn't help his case this spring by going 1-for-12 at the plate with six strikeouts. His speed could help fantasy teams if he finds his way to playing time at some point this season, but he's a career .228/.306/.355 hitter, so that may not be particularly likely.

Sean Guenther - Placed on 60-day IL Guenther (arm) was placed on the 60-day injured list Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Guenther was diagnosed with an arm injury recently that will likely require surgery, and the southpaw will be unavailable for at least the first two months of the regular season. He made his major-league debut last year and posted a 9.30 ERA and 2.02 WHIP in 20.1 innings across 14 relief appearances. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to game action.
