Garrett Cooper - Rejoining lineupMarlins manager Don Mattingly said that Cooper (back) will start at first base in Monday's game in Boston, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactCooper returns to the starting nine after a case of back stiffness caused him to miss the final two games of the Marlins' weekend series with the Pirates. Though he'll be stepping in at first base for Jesus Aguilar on Monday, Cooper will likely see most of his starts in the corner outfield when the Marlins are playing in National League parks.

Daniel Castano - Recalled but not startingCastano was recalled by the Marlins on Monday but will not start Monday's game against the Red Sox, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ImpactThe Marlins previously looked set to have a start available Tuesday against the Rockies, but they pushed Pablo Lopez back from Monday to Tuesday in order to give him an extra day to rest. Zach Thompson will start Monday, but it's possible Castano follows him out of the bullpen. Castano hasn't shown much through four big-league starts this year, striking out just 12.8 percent of opposing batters en route to a 5.19 ERA and 1.56 WHIP.

Lewis Brinson - Moves back to minorsThe Marlins optioned Brinson to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactAfter being called up from Jacksonville on Friday, Brinson appeared in two of the Marlins' three games against the Pirates over the weekend, going 1-for-5. The Marlins don't have a regular role available for Brinson at the big-league level, so he'll head back to Triple-A in order to play on an everyday basis.

Zach Thompson - Starting in big-league debutMarlins manager Don Mattingly said Thompson would start Monday's game in Boston, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe 27-year-old righty gets a tough assignment in his MLB debut, facing off against a Red Sox offense that ranks seventh in the majors this season with a 107 wRC+ versus right-handed pitching. Prior to being called up over the weekend, Thompson had only built up to three innings over his eight outings at Triple-A Jacksonville, so he could be piggybacked in Monday's outing. The Marlins recalled Jacksonville starter Daniel Castano on Monday, and he would likely represent the top candidate to eat innings behind Thompson.

Pablo López - Getting extra dayLopez was scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Red Sox and will instead pitch Tuesday against the Rockies in Miami, with the Marlins wanting to give him an extra d...
ImpactLopez threw just four innings in his previous start June 2 against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs and striking out nine batters on 90 pitches. He's having quite a strong season, posting career lows in both ERA (2.82) and WHIP (1.15), but the Marlins will give him a bit of a rest to ensure his performance remains at that level. The move back in the schedule may actually be a positive development for fantasy managers; he'll skip out on a road matchup against one of the majors' best offenses with a home one against a Rockies offense that is far less potent away from Coors Field. Meanwhile, Lopez will still line up for a two-start week, with his second turn coming in Sunday's series finale in Miami versus Atlanta rather than Saturday.

JJ Bleday - Enjoys power surge at Double-ABleday was named the Double-A South Player of the Week on Monday after going 7-for-22 with two home runs, two doubles, two walks, five RBI and four runs over a six-game stretch fro...
ImpactEven after the big week, Bleday's slash line at Double-A Pensacola sits at .178/.302/.327 for the season. The 23-year-old hasn't exactly hit the ground running in 2021, but he's at least kept his strikeout rate at a manageable 26.2 percent rate while walking in 15.1 percent of his plate appearances. If Bleday can maintain those rates while continuing to hit for power like he did this past week, it's not out of the question for him to earn a promotion to Triple-A Jacksonville by season's end.
