ImpactThe K's salvaged some fantasy value for the southpaw, but Weathers got taken deep in each of the first three innings (twice by Lewis Brinson and once by Bryan De La Cruz for the rookie's first career homer) as he served up three long balls for the second time in his last three starts. Weathers has a brutal 15.42 ERA over that stretch, and he seems unlikely to hang onto a rotation spot once another option gets healthy for San Diego.

ImpactHe took Ryan Weathers deep in the second inning for his first career big-league homer. De La Cruz hasn't come close to replicating his numbers from a breakout campaign at Triple-A this season but he is batting a respectable .267 (12-for-45) through his first 13 MLB games, albeit with a shaky 2:15 BB:K.

Lewis Brinson - Goes yard twice WednesdayBrinson went 3-for-4 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Padres.

ImpactThe 27-year-old has caught fire in August. Brinson has produced multi-hit performances in six of 11 games so far this month, batting .390 (16-for-41) with four doubles, four homers and 15 RBI. It's taken a while -- Brinson is closing in on 1,000 career plate appearances in the majors -- but the 2012 first-round pick and centerpiece of the Christian Yelich trade a few years ago might finally be turning into the kind of offensive force his elite athleticism suggested he could become.

Sandy Alcantara - Shuts down PadresAlcantara (7-10) picked up the win in Wednesday's 7-0 victory over the Padres, giving up four hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

ImpactThe right-hander came roaring back after his 10-run disaster at Coors Field in his last outing, firing 65 of 104 pitches for strikes. Alcantara had delivered three quality starts in his last four trips to the mound, giving him 16 on the season, and he sports a 3.52 ERA and 128:42 K:BB through 143.1 innings.
