Xander Bogaerts - Belts 14th homerBogaerts went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Marlins.
ImpactThe shortstop took Sandy Alcantara deep in the sixth inning to break open what had been a 1-0 pitchers' duel. Bogaerts is still struggling to get into a groove at the plate, and through 21 games in August he's batting .256 (21-for-82) with three of his 14 homers on the season and seven of his 44 RBI.

Seth Lugo - Blanks Fish for fifth winLugo (5-6) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-0 victory over the Marlins, allowing three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out four.
ImpactOnly one Miami baserunner even reached scoring position while Lugo was on the mound. It's the right-hander's second straight quality start and fifth in his last seven outings, a stretch in which he's posted a 3.57 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 43:12 K:BB through 40.1 innings. Lugo will look to keep rolling in his next start, likely to come early next week in St. Louis.

Joey Wendle - Nabs fifth stealWendle went 1-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Padres.
ImpactThe infielder had the Marlins' only extra-base hit of the day in the fifth inning and promptly stole third base, but he was left stranded. Wendle continues to offer little fantasy upside -- he hasn't had a multi-hit performance since July 7, batting a feeble .159 (16-for-88) in 34 games since with zero homers, seven RBI and nine runs, and Wednesday's steal was only his fifth of the season and his first since late June. Despite his prolonged slump, Wendle remains on the strong side of a platoon at shortstop, and Jon Berti has done little to wrest away more playing time from him.

Sandy Alcantara - Gets little help in lossAlcantara (6-11) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks over 6.2 innings as the Marlins fell 4-0 to the Padres. He struck out three.
ImpactLast year's NL Cy Young Award winner didn't have his best stuff, managing only eight swinging strikes among his 105 pitches, but Alcantara was also backed by an offense that only managed four hits off San Diego pitching. Despite the stumble, the right-hander still sports a 3.02 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 50:11 K:BB through 56.2 innings since the All-Star break. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start, likely to come at home next week against the Rays.
