ImpactThough his ERA, now 5.86, remains unimpressive, Helsley has now logged four consecutive scoreless relief appearances after yielding two runs in four of his previous six games. The Cardinals have stuck with the righty as a late-inning option through his struggles and he's beginning to reward them with this string of effective performances. Interestingly, strikeouts have almost been a non-factor in Helsley's recent work, as he's fanned just two hitters in his last seven games.

Johan Oviedo - Shines in no-decisionOviedo struck out four and allowed six hits in seven shutout innings, not factoring into the decision of Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Marlins.
ImpactWednesday was by far the righty's best start of the season to date. Not only did Oviedo yield fewer than two runs for the first time since his April 11 season debut, he also recorded more than 15 outs for the first time in 2021. The 23-year-old was incredibly efficient as well, walking nobody and requiring just 87 pitches to get through the seven frames. Oviedo is expected to make his next start Tuesday against the Tigers.

ImpactThe righty had made it through 8.1 shutout innings before Paul Goldschmidt, who had reached on an error, scored the winning run on a Yadier Molina single. Despite not earning the win, Alcantara recorded a third consecutive quality start and the fifth in his last six outings. The lack of run support has led to an unremarkable 4-6 record, but Alcantara's other numbers (3.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 87 strikeouts) have kept him in the conversation with fantasy's elite starting pitchers.
