Dylan Carlson - No throwing until MondayCarlson (arm) is okay to hit but won't throw again until Monday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ImpactCarlson's arm fatigue appears to be a minor issue, but the Cardinals won't rush anything with the outfielder in spring games. He may serve as a designated hitter for a couple of games before returning to the field later next week.

Jack Flaherty - Not certain for SundayFlaherty is dealing with calf discomfort and flu-like symptoms, which may prevent him from pitching Sunday versus the Mets, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ImpactFlaherty was initially scratched from Saturday's start versus the Nationals, and it's now possible he's pushed back again. The calf discomfort is the bigger concern here, as it's unclear how long it might keep him off the mound. He has logged time in simulated games this spring, but he has yet to make his Grapefruit League debut. Denton adds that it's believed to be a minor issue, but given Flaherty's lengthy injury history, the Cardinals will likely approach this situation with caution.

Johnny Cueto - Brutal start to springCueto has coughed up 11 earned runs in 3.2 innings through his first two Grapefruit League starts, allowing 11 hits and a walk while striking out two.
ImpactThe 37-year-old righty had a surprising bounce-back campaign with the White Sox in 2022 and parlayed it into a one-year, $6 million deal with the Marlins this winter that contains a team option for 2024. Cueto's early spring efforts are far from encouraging, but he'll get a chance to put them behind him while pitching for Team Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, and as yet his spot in the Opening Day rotation for Miami doesn't seem to be in jeopardy.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Launches first spring homerChisholm went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.
ImpactHe took a Dakota Hudson offering the other way in the sixth inning, and it carried over the wall in left-center field. Chisholm has been playing center field consistently this spring, and while he's still getting the hang of his new position defensively, the transition isn't affecting him at the plate, as he's gone 4-for-11 with a double and a homer through four games.

Jordan Groshans - Getting work at first baseGroshans has been getting regular work at first base during Grapefruit League games to begin spring training, improving his odds of breaking camp on the 26-man roster, Jordan McPhe...
ImpactThe Marlins don't have an established backup to Garrett Cooper at first base, so if Groshans shows he can handle the position, he could work his way into a bench role to begin the season. The 23-year-old's prospect status has dimmed the last couple of years as his projected power has never materialized, but after being acquired from the Blue Jays at the trade deadline last year, he batted a solid .262 through his first 17 big-league games. Groshans came up through Toronto's system as a shortstop, and he could wind up filling a multi-position utility role in Miami.
