Carl Edwards Jr. - Concerns about velocityNationals manager Dave Martinez expressed concern Friday about Edwards' dip in velocity, Andrew Golden of the Washington Post reports.
ImpactEdwards said he feels fine, but all of his pitches have been down at least a couple of ticks. Maybe that's just part of a routine spring-training buildup, but Martinez told reporters that the situation would be reevaluated Saturday. Edwards was knocked around for four earned runs while recording only one out Friday in a Grapefruit League appearance against the Mets.

Jorge Soler - Might hit second this seasonSoler hit second in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, going 2-for-3 with his first home run of the spring, and Marlins manager Skip Schumaker indicated he li...
ImpactThe 31-year-old mostly hit third last year for ex-manager Don Mattingly when he was healthy, but Soler could move even higher on Schumaker's lineup card. His 10.9 percent walk rate over the last two seasons is certainly acceptable for the top of the order, but Soler will likely need to improve his .218 batting average to fully take advantage of the assignment. Hitting second would add a bit more fantasy intrigue to a player who's only suited up for 221 games since 2021, but slugged 40 homers in them.

A.J. Puk - Throwing off mound FridayPuk (groin) threw off a mound Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactPuk has been held back a bit by left adductor tightness but has been able to take some steps forward in his recovery. The left-hander should be cleared for games soon if he can avoid setbacks. Acquired from the Athletics last month, Puk is expected to be in the mix for saves as part of Miami's closer-by-committee this season.

Tanner Scott - Resumes mound workScott (biceps) resumed throwing off a mound Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactScott has been slowed by some discomfort in his left biceps but has apparently made some nice progress of late. Assuming that progress continues, he should be ready for game action soon and could get in enough work to be ready for Opening Day. Scott is expected to be part of the Marlins' closer-by-committee approach in 2023.

Corey Dickerson - Could hit near top of orderDickerson has hit second in all three of his spring games so far, and Nationals manager Dave Martinez praised him as a "professional hitter" Thursday, Andrew Golden of The Washingt...
ImpactEarly spring batting orders don't always mean a lot, but Martinez describing Dickerson as a player who puts the ball in play and can work a count certainly sounds like the traditional resume of a two-hole hitter. If he does win the assignment, the 33-year-old would likely find himself batting behind CJ Abrams or Lane Thomas and ahead of the likes of Joey Meneses, Keibert Ruiz and Dominic Smith, but Dickerson's .266/.313/.403 slash line over the last three seasons doesn't hold a lot of fantasy appeal regardless of his spot in the order.

Jackson Tetreault - A week away from throwingTetreault (shoulder) is about a week away from being cleared to throw off a mound, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ImpactTetreault is able to go through his throwing motion off a mound without a ball, which has gone well. Soon, he'll be able to test things out for real. The 26-year-old is being brought along slowly this spring following a stress fracture in his right scapula suffered last July. He seems likely to get a late start to the season and figures to head to Triple-A Rochester once he's ready.
