DFA'd by Halos Ford was designated for assignment by the Angels on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Impact Ford has been a lineup regular at first base for the past month, but he's been removed from the 40-man roster after he posted a .231/.293/.374 slash line with three home runs and five RBI in 28 games for the Angels. Anthony Rendon (wrist) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move, though the Halos will be down one player for the next five games while Rendon serves a suspension.

Impact With Ford coming off the 40-man roster and Adam Duvall (wrist) shifting to the 60-day injured list, Atlanta was able to open up spots for infielder Vaughn Grissom and reliever Kirby Yates (elbow), who were both activated in advance of Wednesday's series finale in Boston. It's the fourth occasion in which Ford has been designated for assignment this season, with the Mariners booting him off their 40-man roster twice and the Giants doing so once. The power-hitting first baseman/designated hitter will likely report to Triple-A Gwinnett if he isn't claimed off waivers.

Impact Since Ford was already moved off the 26-man active roster in the wake of Atlanta acquiring Robbie Grossman from the Tigers on Monday, the change in the transaction type won't dramatically change Ford's timeline for rejoining the big club, provided his strained neck isn't anything more than a short-term concern. Even before the injury surfaced, Ford was having a tough time finding at-bats off the Atlanta bench, as he appeared in just one game during his week-long stay on the active roster.
