Impact Getting the start in place of Mitch Garver and hitting ninth, Avila took Mike Clevinger deep in the second inning for his first homer of the year. The 33-year-old backstop is hitting .333 (3-for-9) to begin the season, but that's unlikely to last -- his career batting average as he approaches his 1,000th big-league game is nearly 100 points lower.

Impact For the second time already this season, Kepler launched a leadoff homer, this one off Mike Clevinger. The 27-year-old outfielder has three long balls in total through six games but only five hits, leading to a lackluster .200 batting average.

Tough night Friday Clevinger (0-1) took the loss Friday as Cleveland was downed 4-1 by the Twins, coughing up four runs on six hits and five walks over four innings. He struck out five.
Impact Just as he did in his first start of the season, Clevinger had a rough first inning that saw him give up three runs, but he was able to right the ship somewhat after that. The Twins' patience ultimately chased him from the game, however, and the right-hander needed 88 pitches (47 strikes) to record 12 outs. Clevinger will try to get out of the blocks more quickly in his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Reds.
