Heads to COVID IL The Rangers placed Foltynewicz on the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Chris Halicke of SI.com reports.
Impact Foltynewicz was one of three Rangers players to land on the COVID-19 IL on Monday and the fourth to join the list in less than a week after utility man Charlie Culberson was deactivated Friday. The Rangers haven't revealed whether Foltynewicz has tested positive for the coronavirus or if he's merely been placed on the IL due to reasons related to contac tracing, but regardless, he won't join Texas for its upcoming three-game road trip in Cleveland. Foltynewicz had been on track to start Wednesday, but Spencer Howard will be pushed up a day in the pitching schedule to replace the right-hander.

Impact This was the third straight quality start for Foltynewicz, who has dropped his home run rate significantly during that run. The right-hander has not won since June 29, a span of eight starts, and looks to snap that winless streak next Wednesday on the road against Cleveland.

Impact Foltynewicz had one of his best outings of the season, but was outdone by opposing pitcher Marco Gonzalez. He allowed two solo home runs to lose the lead, one by J.P. Crawford and the other by Jake Fraley. The 29-year-old has a 5.66 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, but has allowed three or less runs in his last three starts. In addition, he has a low 6.2 K/9 in 124 innings.
