Nearing contact swings Angels manager Phil Nevin said Thursday that Trout (wrist) will soon advance to contact swings, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Impact Trout has been doing dry swings without issue since Monday and is about ready to take a big step forward in his recovery from July 5 surgery for a left hamate bone fracture. If all continues to go smoothly as he ramps up the intensity of his side work, the 31-year-old superstar could rejoin the playoff-hunting Angels around the middle of August.

Impact This is a big step for Trout, who recently went through running drills and had previously been holding a bat and taking very light dry swings. It's unclear when he will be able to return from surgery on his left hand, but facing live pitching will be the next big hurdle.

Impact Any sort of baseball activity is welcome for Trout as he works his way back from hamate bone surgery on his left hand. Stitches removed from hand Trout (hand/wrist) had the stitches removed Wednesday from his surgically-repaired left hand, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Impact Trout hasn't been cleared yet for any baseball activity, but he's on the mend from July 5 surgery to remove the fractured hamate bone from his left hand/wrist. There should be a better idea on a timetable for his return once he starts swinging a bat. The initial expectation was that he would be sidelined for 4-to-8 weeks.

Impact The operation went as expected. While no timetable for Trout's return has been established, it's a surgery which typically results in anywhere between a four- to eight-week absence. Mickey Moniak has started each of the first two games in center field for the Angels since Trout was hurt, but Jo Adell could also see action there, particularly against lefties.
