Impact The 30-year-old is first eligible to be activated Friday, so it appears he's expected to spend the 10-day minimum on the shelf. Yastrzemski was expected to miss five or six games after being diagnosed with a mild oblique strain, but the Giants opted to provide some extra recovery time and move him to the injured list.

Shifts to injured list Yastrzemski (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to April 26.

Impact The 30-year-old was diagnosed with a mild strain in his left oblique earlier in the day, but he'll still require a stint on the injured list. Manager Gabe Kapler previously indicated Yastrzemski would miss five or six games, so there's a realistic chance the outfielder is ready to return when eligible May 7. Newcomer Mike Tauchman will bolster San Francisco's outfield depth and is starting Wednesday after being acquired from the Yankees on Tuesday.

MRI shows very mild strain Yastrzemski underwent an MRI on Monday which revealed nothing worse than a very mild oblique strain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Impact Yastrzemski will sit Monday against the Rockies after exiting Sunday's game with the issue, but the Giants are hopeful that he can avoid the injured list. He'll miss at least a handful of games, however, with manager Gabe Kapler suggesting he could miss five or six, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Darin Ruf will take over in right field Monday.

Impact Yastrzemski's only out of the night came on a strikeout in the first inning. The 30-year-old was sharp at the plate thereafter and highlighted his night with an opposite-field two-run blast that just cleared the wall in left to give the Giants an early 2-1 lead in the third. Yastrzemski has had a horrendous start to the year, slashing .205/.293/.425 with three home runs, five RBI and nine runs scored while also striking out a career-worst 30.5 percent of the time. He does, however, have two multi-base hit efforts in his last four games and has been showing more life at the plate recently.
