Jason Alexander - Sent back to minors The Brewers optioned Alexander to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Impact Milwaukee is scheduled to return starter Eric Lauer (elbow) from the injured list to take the hill for Friday's game in Cincinnati, so Alexander will end up losing his spot in the rotation and on the 28-man active roster. After being promoted from Nashville on Aug. 22, Alexander made six appearances (four starts) and turned in a 5.87 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 23 innings.

Trevor Gott - Reinstated from injured list Gott (forearm) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Impact Gott sustained a right forearm strain in mid-August but was cleared to resume throwing later in the month. He spent the last week and a half on a rehab assignment and struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings over three minor-league appearances. It's possible that the right-hander serves as an occasional setup man down the stretch.

Impact Ashby was activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's start following a shoulder injury and he was able to hold the Mets scoreless over two frames. The left-hander wasn't expected to handle a full workload and was removed from the contest after tossing 41 pitches. Prior to heading to the IL, Ashby had struggled to a 6.89 ERA over 15.2 innings in his previous three starts. Overall, the 24-year-old owns a 4.48 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 118 punchouts over 98.1 frames in 24 appearances this season including 18 starts.

Impact Pete Alonso cracked a three-run homer in the fourth inning and the Mets would add two more runs on three additional extra-base hits in the sixth (triple, triple, double). Burnes has not been his typical dominant self lately -- he has a 5.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and seven homers allowed in his last 36 innings. Last year's NL Cy Young winner is now up to 184.2 innings this season, 17.2 more than last year already, but the Brewers are just 2.5 games out of a wild-card spot, so it seems unlikely Burnes will face an early shutdown.
