Aaron Ashby - Preparing for starting role Brewers manager Craig Counsell confirmed Monday that Ashby will be stretched out for starting duty during spring training, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

Impact Counsell didn't explicitly confirm that Ashby will open the season in a starting role, though he'll likely be the favorite for the final spot if the Brewers elect to run out a six-man rotation like they did for a large portion of the 2021 campaign. After enduring a rocky MLB debut last June against the Cubs, Ashby was highly effective in his subsequent 12 appearances (and three starts) the rest of the season, posting a 3.48 ERA (3.30 FIP) and a 24.4 K-BB% over 31 innings. He looks to be a high-upside dart throw in the later rounds of mixed-league drafts.

Brad Boxberger - Back with Brewers on one-year deal Boxberger agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Brewers on Sunday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Coming off a strong season and with 81 career saves under his belt, Boxberger could have been a closer had he landed on a different team in free agency. However, he should reprise his role as a setup man in Milwaukee, barring any trades or injuries to Josh Hader and/or Devin Williams. Boxberger logged a 3.34 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 21.8 K-BB% in 64.2 innings last season. He also chipped in five wins and four saves across 71 appearances.

Impact Hiura's poor defense at second base and first base made him a potential designated hitter candidate, but the Brewers would likely also want to give Christian Yelich, among others, starts at DH, so it would behoove Hiura to have an avenue into the lineup beyond DH. His sprint speed is roughly league average and his arm is notoriously bad, so it seems unlikely that Hiura will fare much better in the outfield than he did on the right side of the infield.

Impact The 30-year-old right-hander last appeared in the majors in 2019 with the Mariners, making 20 relief appearances while posting a 2.66 ERA and 27:15 K:BB across 23.2 innings. Impact Perdomo inked a two-year, minor-league deal with the Brewers late in 2020 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and he's now healthy heading into the 2022 campaign. The 28-year-old pitched in 10 games for the Padres during 2020 and posted a 5.71 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 17.1 innings. He should serve as organizational rotation depth for the Brewers to open the season.
