Impact After turning in a strong debut for Carolina on April 6 with six strikeouts over four innings while allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks, Birchard was shut down with an oblique injury a couple weeks later. He was on the shelf for three months before getting cleared to rejoin Carolina following a couple of rehab appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Though the 21-year-old righty is healthy again, the Brewers are still likely to manage his innings load carefully down the stretch.

Joe Ross - Works out of bullpen Tuesday Ross struck out a batter and allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings out of the bullpen Tuesday in the Brewers' 10-0 win over Atlanta.
Impact After returning from the 60-day injured list July 30, Ross started and covered five innings while taking a loss against Atlanta. Ross had started in each of his first 10 appearances of the season with Milwaukee and posted a 4.98 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in those outings before being moved to the bullpen this week. With the acquisition of Frankie Montas at the trade deadline, the Brewers didn't have room in the rotation for Ross, who should continue to operate as a low-leverage reliever until an injury to another starting pitcher reopens a rotation spot.

DL Hall - Could start for Milwaukee on Sunday Hall (knee) could be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday against the Reds, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact The Brewers do not have a starter listed for Sunday, but it would be regular rest for Hall, who allowed one run over four innings in his latest rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. It would also be regular rest for Colin Rea, but it appears the Brewers will give him an extra day of rest after he went seven shutout innings Tuesday in Atlanta. Hall has not made a start in the majors since late April, as he's been working his way back from a left knee sprain.

Rhys Hoskins - Three-hit effort in win Hoskins went 3-for-5 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Atlanta.
Impact Hoskins extended his hitting streak to 12 games, and he's logged multiple hits in each of the last two contests. During the streak, he's gone 15-for-46 (.326) with four home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored. The first baseman isn't known to hit for much of an average, but his recent consistency has lifted his average from .213 to .229 for the year. He's added a .758 OPS, 19 homers, 57 RBI, 40 runs scored and two stolen bases across 89 contests.

Joey Ortiz - Productive in win Ortiz went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one walk, two RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Atlanta.
Impact This was Ortiz's second multi-hit effort in a row after he went a mere 7-for-50 (.140) over his first 14 games of the second half. The infielder also logged multiple RBI in a game for the first time since June 15. Despite his struggles at the plate, Ortiz has maintained steady playing time at third base. He's now at a .253/.353/.404 slash line with seven home runs, six stolen bases, 35 RBI, 39 runs scored, 16 doubles and three triples over 93 contests this year.

Impact Chourio has 11 multi-hit efforts over his 15 games since the All-Star break, going 26-for-66 (.394) with five steals and 11 RBI in that span. The rookie outfielder also recorded multiple steals in a game for the second time this year. Freddy Peralta - Allows four runs in win Peralta (7-6) allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings, earning the win over Atlanta on Wednesday.
Impact Atlanta started hot with two runs in the first inning and Austin Riley added a two-run home run in the fifth, but Milwaukee was able to take the lead back before Nick Mears relieved Peralta in the bottom of the sixth. This was Peralta's first win since June 30 -- over the five starts in between, he posted a 4.10 ERA and 29:12 K:BB across 26.1 innings. He's at a 4.02 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 155:47 K:BB through 125.1 innings over 23 starts this year. The right-hander's next start is projected to be another tough matchup at home versus the Dodgers.
