Nabs roster spotManager Craig Counsell said Sunday that Vogelbach has secured a spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe lack of a universal designated hitter in 2021 will relegate Vogelbach to a bench role to start this season, after the 28-year-old slugger had previously been a mainstay in the lineup for the final month of last season upon being scooped up off waivers from Toronto last September. While the lack of regular at-bats will severely limit Vogelbach's fantasy value when top first baseman Keston Hiura is available, Counsell envisions Vogelbach filling an important role as a pinch-hitting extraordinaire for Milwaukee. Per McCalvy, Counsell said he's aiming to find ways to get Vogelbach at least one at-bat per game.

Back with Brew Crew on MiLB dealBoxberger re-signed Sunday with the Brewers on a minor-league contract.
ImpactMilwaukee released Boxberger earlier in the weekend after he was informed he wouldn't break camp with the big club, but he seemingly has renewed hope of making the Opening Day bullpen after reliever Justin Topa experienced elbow discomfort during his appearance in a "B" game Saturday. With manager Craig Counsell confirming that Topa would begin the season on the injured list, Boxberger would be a logical candidate to join the active roster if the Brewers decide to fill Topa's spot with another reliever.

Bound for IL with elbow issueBrewers manager Craig Counsell said Topa will open the season on the injured list after experiencing elbow discomfort during his appearance Saturday in a "B" game, Sophia Minnaert...
ImpactMilwaukee is still awaiting the results of Topa's MRI before providing an updated timeline on his return, but given the nature of his injury, the right-hander seems likely to spend more than the minimum 10 days on the IL. The Brewers had been hoping the hard-throwing Topa -- who logged a 2.35 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and struck out 12 over 7.1 innings as a rookie in 2020 -- would fill a key role out of the bullpen to begin the season.

Added to rosterThe Royals selected Davis' contract Sunday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ImpactAfter joining the Royals on a minor-league deal this offseason, Davis was able to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster following a strong showing in spring training. Over his six innings thus far in Cactus League play, Davis has yet to permit a run while scattering four hits and three walks. Though Davis has ample experience as a closer, he'll most likely be limited to setup work to begin the season.
