PETCO Park, San Diego, CA
Drew Pomeranz - Expected to start rehab soonPomeranz (neck, elbow) threw a bullpen Sunday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment this week with Low-A Lake Elsinore, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactPomeranz won't go to Triple-A El Paso to begin his rehab with the club heading to Triple-A Tacoma this week. The southpaw is working his way back flexor tendon surgery in August 2021, but his rehab was delayed by a neck strain suffered last week. Pomeranz reported back to San Diego to receive treatment on his neck, and has a chance to pitch in the Cal League for the Storm by the end of the week.

Joe Musgrove - Strikes out eight in latest startMusgrove (toe/shoulder) struck out eight over five innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits and no walks in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A El Paso.
ImpactThe rehab outing was Musgrove's second with El Paso after he previously covered 4.1 innings in his first start April 6. He built up to 69 pitches in Sunday's outing, so Musgrove looks like he'll be ready to handle something close to a normal workload if the Padres are comfortable bringing him back from the 15-day injured list at some point during this weekend's four-game series in Arizona. Ryan Weathers is the most likely candidate to move to the bullpen or head to Triple-A once Musgrove is formally cleared to rejoin the big-league rotation.

Fernando Tatis Jr. - Rehab assignment endsTatis (suspension) returned to San Diego on Monday and will work out at Petco Park the next three days before being reinstated to the active roster ahead of Thursday's game against...
ImpactTatis is eligible to continue playing in minor-league games until his 80-game suspension concludes following the Padres' series finale Wednesday versus Atlanta, but the organization has seen enough from the talented 23-year-old during his rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso to feel confident in his readiness for MLB action. During his 12-day stint in El Paso, Tatis was no match for Pacific Coast League pitchers, as he raked to the tune of a .515/.590/1.212 slash line with seven home runs, two stolen bases and a 6:3 BB:K over 39 plate appearances. Padres manager Bob Melvin said earlier in April that he anticipates having Tatis bat out of the leadoff spot once he's reinstated from suspension.

Steven Wilson - Seeing more eighth-inning workWilson worked the eighth inning during Sunday's loss to Milwaukee, tossing a scoreless frame during which he allowed one walk and no hits.
ImpactThis was the second time in the past week that Wilson pitched the eighth inning of a close game -- in the other instance, he picked up a hold during a 4-2 win over the Mets. The right-hander's role isn't set in stone, as in his other two outings last week he pitched once in the seventh inning and another time in the fourth and fifth frames. It seems to be clear, however, that Wilson has earned the trust of manager Bob Melvin in tight late-game situations. That trust stems from a strong start to the campaign during which Wilson has posted a 0.84 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 11.0 K/9 over nine appearances. He's walking a few too many batters (five through 10.2 innings), and Josh Hader isn't in any danger of losing his job as San Diego's closer, but Wilson could be a worthwhile pickup in fantasy leagues that count holds even when Robert Suarez (elbow) and Drew Pomeranz (elbow/neck) return to action.

Payton Henry - Outrighted to Triple-AHenry cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville by the Brewers on Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe Brewers are surely happy to retain the catching depth. Henry has a .561 OPS in five games with Nashville this season.

Peter Strzelecki - Summoned in setup spotStrzelecki tossed a clean eighth inning and picked up his third hold of the season in Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Padres.
ImpactWith the Brewers looking to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, Strzelecki was summoned from the bullpen rather than Matt Bush, who opened the season in the setup role but has not been particularly effective. Strzelecki came through in a big way, retiring all three batters he faced and notching his seventh scoreless appearance of the season. There has not been an official changing of the guard in front of closer Devin Williams, but given how Strzelecki and Bush have fared early on, there is a chance that could occur.

Keston Hiura - Tearing it up in Triple-AHiura went 6-for-24 (.250) with five home runs, eight RBI and a 2:7 BB:K over his last six games with Triple-A Nashville.
ImpactHiura opened the season in the minors for the first time since 2019, and opposing pitchers have offered little resistance thus far. That's not surprising, as Hiura now owns a 1.005 OPS across 133 Triple-A games. The hot streak would seem to put him in the mix for a call-up, but the Brewers seem set at first base and the DH spot for the time being. A trade is a possibility, but Hiura went unclaimed after being designated for assignment in late March, so outside interest appears light. Hiura is bound to get another shot in the majors at some point; it's just uncertain when that will arrive.
