Nick Gordon - Expected to be ready by Opening DayManager Rocco Baldelli said Wednesday that Gordon (head) should be ready for Friday's season opener against the Mariners, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
ImpactGordon passed concussion testing after his outfield collision in Monday's Grapefruit League game. He didn't appear to be in line for a lengthy absence, and he'll ultimately be available once the regular season gets underway Friday. Gordon slashed .333/.385/.583 with a home run, a triple, a double, nine RBI, five runs and a stolen base across 11 spring appearances, and he's in line to play a depth role to begin the 2022 campaign.

Marcelo Mayer - Gets brief spring taste of majorsMayer picked up five plate appearances for the Red Sox this spring, going 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts.
ImpactHe's 19 and has never played above rookie ball, so no one expected Mayer to put up numbers in spring training. Last year's No. 4 overall draft pick, he's expected to open 2022 in Low-A, and it'll be worth watching to see whether he can maintain last season's impressive walk rate (14 percent) while getting to his power more often in game action.
