Bligh Madris - Drawing fifth straight startMadris will start at first base and bat fifth in Monday's game against the Guardians.
ImpactHe'll be included in the lineup for a fifth straight contest after going 6-for-14 with a double, a walk, two runs and an RBI over the prior four games. The Tigers may not have an everyday role available for Madris once the likes of Parker Meadows (hamstring) and Riley Greene (hamstring) return from the 10-day injured list, though Detroit could find ways to get Madris' bat in the lineup so long as he's running hot at the dish.
JULY 29ROTOWIRE
Wenceel Pérez - Getting rest MondayPerez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.
ImpactPerez will get a breather for the first time since July 13, when the Tigers' played their penultimate game before the All-Star break. He had opened the Tigers' second-half schedule with a .786 OPS through his first seven contests, but he'll hit the bench after going hitless in 12 at-bats during the club's three-game series with Minnesota over the weekend.
JULY 29ROTOWIRE
Jake Rogers - On bench in Dingler's debutRogers is out of the lineup Monday against the Guardians.
ImpactRogers had started behind the plate in three of the Tigers' last four games, but he'll be back on the bench for the series opener with Cleveland. Even after the Tigers traded fellow catcher Carson Kelly away to the Rangers on Sunday, Rogers could find himself as the No. 2 backstop for Detroit. The Tigers promoted Dillon Dingler from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, and he'll be put to work right away as the team's starting catcher. Like Rogers, Dingler is regarded as a glove-first catcher, but he might bring more offensive upside to the table after breaking out with a .938 OPS over 301 plate appearances at Toledo this season.
JULY 29ROTOWIRE
Jack Flaherty - Currently slated to start ThursdayTigers manager A.J. Hinch said Monday that Flaherty is scheduled to start Thursday against the Royals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ImpactFlaherty almost surely isn't going to wind up taking the ball for the Tigers that day, however, as the full expectation is that he's traded prior to Tuesday's deadline. The righty had been scheduled to start Monday versus the Guardians, but the Tigers ultimately scratched him, no doubt because they're anticipating a trade.
JULY 29ROTOWIRE
Beau Brieske - Opening Monday's contestBrieske will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher for Monday's game against the Guardians, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ImpactJack Flaherty had been scheduled to start Monday, but the Tigers opted to scratch him so as not to risk exposing him to an injury that might jeopardize a trade prior to Tuesday's deadline. The Tigers will thus turn to Brieske to make his second start of the season, though like on the previous occasion he started July 14 against the Dodgers, he probably won't be counted on to cover more than an inning or two. Bryan Sammons was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Monday and could operate as a bulk reliever behind Brieske.
JULY 29ROTOWIRE
Casey Mize - Shifted to 60-day injured listThe Tigers transferred Mize (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Monday.
ImpactThe move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Bryan Sammons. Mize has resumed throwing off a mound after being sidelined for the last few weeks with a strained left hamstring. He now will not be eligible for activation until early September.
JULY 29ROTOWIRE
Bryan Sammons - Added to rosterThe Tigers selected Sammons' contract from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
ImpactSammons has put up a 4.18 ERA and 78:34 K:BB over 84 innings covering 17 starts with Toledo this season. The left-hander is expected to be used in bulk relief Monday against the Guardians behind starter Beau Brieske, who is unlikely to work more than an inning or two before exiting the contest.
