Looks good facing hittersArcher's velocity and slider were both where the Rays expected when the right-hander faced live hitters Sunday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThere are plenty of eyes on the veteran in the nascent days of his return to the Rays, as Archer missed all of last season for the Pirates following surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. Archer reported having added muscle this offseason and feeling back to full health overall, and manager Kevin Cash noted that the 32-year-old will throw one more session against live hitters before making his Grapefruit League debut.

Raking early in Grapefruit LeagueMeadows went a combined 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, two walks and two runs over four plate appearances across the Rays' first two Grapefruit League games Sunday and Monday.
ImpactThe 25-year-old came into spring training 10 to 15 pounds lighter than the end of last season, and the more svelte figure appears to be paying dividends at the plate early. Meadows slugged a career-high 33 home runs just two seasons ago before battling COVID-19 issues during the shortened 2020 campaign, and if early returns are any indication, he looks set to make good on his pledge of returning to a higher caliber of production in 2021.

Visa issues still unresolvedSimmons still hasn't had his appointment to get his visa, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
ImpactSimmons was one member of a large group of players around the league who faced visa delays as they attempted to get back into the country for camp. His particular case is taking longer to resolve than most. The Twins expected his appointment to happen Friday, but that apparently didn't transpire. Opening Day is still nearly a month away, but Simmons would surely prefer to have as much time as possible to get to know his new teammates.

Joining team at campHapp (illness) has cleared all COVID-19-related protocols and is scheduled to join the Twins for workouts Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
ImpactHapp has been absent thus far from camp after testing positive for COVID-19 in February, but the veteran southpaw wasn't believed to be dealing with any serious symptoms as a result of the virus. That said, expect the Twins to take it slowly with Happ during the ramp-up process, with his Grapefruit League debut unlikely to come within the next week. However, with Opening Day still nearly a month away, Happ should have sufficient time to build up to a starter's workload by the time his first turn in the rotation comes up during the regular season.
