Josh Winder - Likely to head to Triple-AWinder appears to be out of the running for a spot in the Twins' Opening Day rotation after Minnesota signed Chris Archer to a one-year deal Monday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic r...
ImpactDue to his late signing, Archer could require some ramp-up time and may not be included in the Opening Day rotation, but Minnesota's schedule will allow it to get by with four starters until April 13, if necessary. Winder's MLB debut thus doesn't appear to be imminent, but the 25-year-old righty looks like he'll rank near the top of the list for a promotion if an opening in the rotation arises at any point in 2022. Considering that Winder missed the final two months of the 2021 season due to shoulder fatigue, some extra tune-up time at Triple-A St. Paul to begin the year is probably more ideal than being thrown into the fire in the big-league rotation. Winder made only four starts for the affiliate before being shut down last season, providing a 4.67 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB in 17.1 innings over that stretch.

Confident Rays aiming to finally clear World Series hurdle

The young, hungry Tampa Bay Rays have done quite a job building expectations

Vidal Bruján - Denied spot on Opening Day rosterThe Rays optioned Brujan to minor-league camp Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ImpactGiven that he turned in a lowly .154 OPS in 26 plate appearances in his first taste of the big leagues in 2021 before finishing the season at Triple-A Durham, Brujan's demotion comes as little surprise. The toolsy, switch-hitting 24-year-old remains one of the Rays' top prospects and likely doesn't need much further refinement in the minors, but Tampa Bay's wealth of infield and outfield talent may force Brujan to wait a little longer before getting his next trial with the big club. If he's able to take hold of a regular role with Tampa Bay at some point in 2022, Brujan would offer intriguing stolen-base upside, after swiping 44 bags in 52 attempts at Triple-A last season.

Austin Meadows - Dealing with oblique issueManager Kevin Cash said Wednesday that Meadows is dealing with a "minor" oblique issue, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The outfielder is expected to return to the Rays...
ImpactThe injury has kept Meadows out of action since Sunday, but it doesn't appear to be anything significant enough to jeopardize his availability for Opening Day. Meadows is coming off a strong 2021 season in which hit 27 homers while producing a career-high 106 RBI and drawing 59 walks.

Colin Poche - Making third spring appearancePoche is scheduled to appear in relief of starter Josh Fleming in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
ImpactHealthy again after missing the entire 2020 and 2021 seasons while recovering from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in June 2020, Poche is vying for a spot in the Rays' Opening Day bullpen. He's looked sharp in his first two Grapefruit League appearances to date, striking out two over two scoreless frames while recording a save.

Luke Bard - Making spring debutBard (hip) is scheduled to make his first Grapefruit League appearance Wednesday against the Orioles, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
ImpactBard missed the entire 2021 season after sustaining a hip injury last spring that required surgery, but he looks to be back to full strength after he came to terms with the Rays last week on a minor-league deal. Though he'll be given the chance to compete for a spot in the Rays' Opening Day bullpen over the final days of camp, Bard is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Durham.
