Straw's strong play might be enough for him to stick around on the big-league roster as a depth outfielder ahead of Lukes -- who has a minor-league option remaining -- once Varsho is cleared to make his 2025 debut with Toronto.

Impact Straw is still owed $16 million over the next two years, so the cash Cleveland is sending to Toronto figures to be a significant sum. Per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca, the Blue Jays will receive $2 million in bonus pool money. While the club hopes to put that toward a contract for Roki Sasaki, Davidi says Sasaki has not given the Blue Jays any indication that he's made a decision. Straw spent nearly all of the 2024 season in the minors and was removed from Cleveland's 40-man roster earlier this offseason.
