Another quality start Sunday Cortes allowed a run on three hits and a walk while striking out five in six innings during Sunday's win over the Blue Jays. He didn't factor into the decision.

Impact Cortes' strikeout numbers have dropped since striking out 10 batters against the Mariners on Aug. 10, but he posted a third consecutive quality start Sunday. The southpaw was forced to settle for a no-decision during the low-scoring matchup, and he's yet to earn a win over four starts in August. Cortes has posted a 2.80 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 35.1 innings since the All-Star break and tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Oakland on Saturday.

Quality start in loss Cortes (9-4) took the defeat Tuesday against Tampa Bay, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three in seven innings.

Impact All three runs against Cortes came in the first inning as he allowed singles to the first two batters and then a three-run homer to Randy Arozarena with one out. He didn't allow another hit until the sixth innings as he retired 20 of the last 21 batters he faced. The lefty has allowed three runs or fewer in six straight starts, compiling a 2.72 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB in 36.1 innings over that span. With 125 innings pitched, he's thrown 10 more innings than in any other major or minor-league season.

Impact Cortes was nearly unhittable, but that may have been because he wasn't offering much worth swinging at. The southpaw threw just 48 of 83 pitches for strikes, with the only hit against him being a Yadier Molina RBI single in the second inning. Cortes has allowed 10 runs in 33 innings across his last six starts. For the season, he owns a 2.57 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 115:28 K:BB through 112 innings across 20 starts. He'll resume the hunt for his 10th win of the year next week in a projected start in Seattle.

Impact Cortes' command was impressive in Sunday's contest. The lefty threw 64 of 94 pitches for strikes in the game, tallying seven strikeouts and no walks. He was able to strand all of the Baltimore baserunners for his fifth game of the season without allowing an earned run. This was Cortes' first win since July 2, but his third quality start since then. It was also the fourth time since June 2 that he lasted at least six innings. Cortes will take a 2.48 ERA into his next appearance.
