Mets are falling apart: Now slugger is headed to IL Pete Alonso suffered wrist injury against Braves on Wednesday
Luis Guillorme - Expected to be recalled Guillorme is headed to Pittsburgh to join the Mets and is expected to be recalled prior to Friday's game, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Guillorme looks to be the corresponding roster move for Pete Alonso (wrist), who is headed to the injured list. The utility infielder has posted just a .590 OPS this season but will offer the Mets a quality glove at multiple spots as they scramble to account for the loss of Alonso.

Mark Vientos - Playing time opening up Vientos went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in Thursday's 13-10 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.
Impact Getting the start at first base and batting ninth, Vientos' rookie struggles continued, and he's now batting .162 (6-for-37) through his first 13 big-league games this season with a 30.8 percent strikeout rate. Pete Alonso (wrist) was placed on the injured list Friday, however, potentially pushing Vientos into a near-everyday role. The 23-year-old was slashing .333/.416/.688 at Triple-A Syracuse prior to his promotion, and while he won't replace Alonso's elite power, Vientos could begin to find some success at the plate with more consistent playing time.

Tommy Hunter - Serves up walk-off homer Hunter (0-1) took the loss Thursday as the Mets fell 13-10 to Atlanta, giving up three runs (two earned) on a hit and a walk over two-thirds of an inning.
Impact With two runners on in the bottom of the 10th inning, the right-hander left a 1-0 cutter in the heart of the zone and Ozzie Albies crushed it deep to right field to walk it off. Hunter has served up four homers in 21.2 innings this season, a nearly identical rate to last year, but he hasn't been anywhere near as lucky and now carries a 6.65 ERA -- a jump of more than four runs from 2022. The veteran reliever was the sixth Met to come out of the bullpen Thursday, and he'll remain in a low-leverage role unless he's able to earn some trust from manager Buck Showalter.

Impact The Mets had been waiting on the results of imaging on Alonso's left wrist after he we hit by a pitch Wednesday in Atlanta and evidently they received bad news. If his wrist is fractured, he will surely require a fairly lengthy stay on the IL. Mark Vientos could take over as the Mets' regular first baseman while Alonso is sidelined.

Impact Nimmo gave the Mets their first lead with a grand slam off Spencer Strider in the second inning, but Atlanta eventually prevailed in a slugfest. Impact Alvarez worked as the team's DH in the contest and justified his placement in that role with a pair of big blasts. The backstop has overcome a slow start to the campaign with a powerful 16-game stretch during which he's swatted eight homers, driven in 17 runs, scored 10 times and posted a .283/.333/.774 slash line. Alvarez is now tied for second among big-league catchers with 11 homers on the season.

David Robertson - Blows save Thursday Robertson was charged with a blown save against Atlanta on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 1.2 innings.
Impact Robertson came on in the eighth inning after a Travis d'Arnaud homer narrowed New York's lead to one run. He successfully finished that frame with two outs on eight pitches, then returned to try to close the contest in the ninth. He wasn't successful, as Orlando Arcia tagged him for a one-out solo homer to tie the score. This was just the second blown save of the season for Robertson in 12 opportunities, though it continued a recent decline in his performance. After giving up just two earned runs over his first 20 innings of the campaign, Robertson has surrendered four earned runs on 10 hits over 7.1 frames across his past six appearances.

Justin Verlander - Posts another poor outing Verlander allowed five runs (four earned) on seen hits and four walks while striking out three batters over three innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Thursday.
Impact Atlanta racked up plenty of hits against Verlander, but he also inflicted a lot of self-damage by issuing four free passes. The veteran struggled to get the ball over the plate, throwing just 45 of 82 pitches for a strike. Verlander's final line could actually have been much worse -- Atlanta left six runners on base during the three frames in which he pitched. The reigning AL Cy Young award winner hasn't really lived up to that billing his first campaign with the Mets, posting a 4.85 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 33:13 K:BB over 39 innings across seven starts.
