Max Scherzer - Neck still spasming Scherzer attempted to play catch Wednesday but cut it short because his neck was still spasming, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact Scherzer noted that while the spasm "hasn't fully let go yet," he feels better than he did Tuesday and is still planning to make a start the weekend series against the Nationals which runs through Monday. The three-time Cy Young winner has also been battling through nagging discomfort below his right scapula.

Elieser Hernández - Transferred to 60-day IL Hernandez (shoulder) was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list by the Mets on Wednesday.
Impact Hernandez is removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Michael Perez with Perez having his contract purchased from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. Hernandez has missed the entirety of the 2023 season because of a right shoulder strain, and he isn't expected to be ready to return until the middle of the summer.

Impact Michael Perez will replace him on the roster. Given the unique nature of the injury, it's difficult to project how much time Nido might miss. Francisco Alvarez will be the Mets' primary catcher.

Impact He took Luke Weaver deep in both the third and sixth innings, giving the 21-year-old backstop his first career multi-homer game in the majors. Alvarez has gotten comfortable at the plate for the Mets after a sluggish couple of weeks following his promotion, and over his last 12 games he's batting .323 (10-for-31) with two doubles, three home runs, five RBI and six runs.

David Peterson - Early exit in emergency start Peterson (1-5) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over 3.1 innings as the Mets fell 7-6 to the Reds. He struck out four.
Impact The southpaw was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse at the end of April, but Peterson was brought back up after just one minor-league start when Max Scherzer (neck) wasn't able to take his turn. Peterson failed to capitalize on his second chance and needed 87 pitches to record only 10 outs, although he did avoid serving up any homers for just the second time in seven big-league outings this season. Peterson could remain in the Mets' rotation for now if Scherzer isn't ready to return over the weekend, or if the team simply wants to give the whole rotation an extra day of rest, but his 7.68 ERA and 1.68 WHIP don't make a compelling case to stick around for the long term.
