Anderson Espinoza - Returns to minorsThe Cubs optioned Espinoza to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
ImpactAs expected, Espinoza will make his way back to the minors after he was designated as the 27th man for Saturday's twin bill with the Mets. He appeared out of the bullpen in the Cubs' 4-3 loss in the second game of the doubleheader, striking out a pair of batters over 2.2 scoreless innings while working around one hit and two walks.

ImpactAccording to Tim Healey of Newsday, manager Buck Showalter said Sunday that the swelling in Smith's ankle has lessened since the 27-year-old exited the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Even so, Smith will be sent in for more imaging when the Mets return to New York following Sunday's contest, so a trip to the injured list could still be a possibility. Jeff McNeil will replace Smith in the lineup Sunday as the Mets' designated hitter.
