Daniel Castano - Records quality start against MetsCastano allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four in seven innings during Sunday's win over the Mets. He didn't factor into the decision.
ImpactCastano lasted just 3.2 innings during Tuesday's start against the Rockies, but he had his longest outing of the season Sunday while posting his second quality start in his last three appearances. The southpaw hasn't struck out many batters in the majors this year but has posted a 3.18 ERA in 17 innings over three starts since rejoining the Marlins. He projects to make his next start on the road against Washington on Saturday.

David Peterson - Strikes out eight SundayPeterson allowed two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out eight in seven innings during Sunday's loss to the Marlins. He didn't factor into the decision.
ImpactPeterson posted his second quality start of the season while striking out a season-high eight batters during Sunday's matchup, but he was unable to pick up the win during the low-scoring game. The southpaw has made seven appearances (six starts) since rejoining the major-league roster and has posted a 3.78 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 33.1 innings during that time. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Rangers on Saturday.

Max Scherzer - Second rehab start coming TuesdayScherzer (oblique) is scheduled to make his second rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Binghamton, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
ImpactThe veteran right-hander was previously optimistic that he would need just one rehab start before coming off the 15-day injured list, but the Mets opted to schedule him for another outing in the minors after he didn't get fully stretched out in his initial outing with Binghamton. In his start June 21, Scherzer struck out six over 3.1 innings (65 pitches) while giving up two runs on three hits and one walk. He'll presumably target the 70-to-85-pitch range Tuesday, and if all goes well, he should return from the IL as soon as July 3 to start the Mets' series finale with the Rangers.
