Lane Thomas - Clubs third homerThomas went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Mets.
ImpactThe 26-year-old has come alive at the plate in September, going 8-for-21 (.381) with three homers, four RBI and five runs scored in his last five games. Thomas has a seven-game hitting streak dating back to Aug. 30. Despite the recent surge, the outfielder owns a .235/.341/.383 slash line with 11 RBI, 14 runs scored and three stolen bases through 135 plate appearances between Washington and St. Louis this year. He should see regular playing time in center field while he's wielding a hot bat.

Josh Bell - Crushes 24th homerBell went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a pair of walks in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Mets.
ImpactThe first baseman went yard in the first inning to pull Washington within a run. Bell is up to 24 homers, and he's gone yard seven times in 31 games since the start of August. He's slashing .254/.322/.478 with 76 RBI, 61 runs scored and 18 doubles through 454 plate appearances as a reliable slugger in the heart of the order.

Andres Machado - Handed loss SundayMachado (1-2) took the loss Sunday versus the Mets, allowing one run on three hits while recording only one out.
ImpactThe right-hander was brought on for the eighth inning, but he loaded the bases and recorded his only out on a Patrick Mazeika sacrifice fly that scored the Mets' go-ahead run. Machado has yielded five runs (four earned) in his last four appearances, spanning just 1.2 innings. He has a reasonable 3.65 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB across 24.2 innings this year, and he's added six holds and two blown saves.

Josiah Gray - Another tough start SundayGray allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings versus the Mets on Sunday. He did not factor in the decision.
ImpactThe 23-year-old has yielded a half-dozen runs in each of his last two starts, covering just seven innings in that span. The right-hander allowed the Mets to cobble together four runs in the first inning and then yielded solo home runs to Jonathan Villar and Javier Baez before he was removed from the game. Gray has struggled to a 5.65 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 48:17 K:BB through 43 innings between the Nationals and the Dodgers this year. He's in line for a favorable road start versus Pittsburgh during next weekend's three-game series.

ImpactThe shortstop sparked a six-run ninth inning for the Mets with his solo shot, which was his 13th homer of the year and his second in as many days after he went yard in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader. Lindor hadn't homered prior to July 11 before rediscovering his power this weekend. The 27-year-old is slashing just .225/.316/.382 with 44 RBI, 56 runs scored and 10 stolen bases through 414 plate appearances overall.

He's posted a .268/.340/.469 slash line with 18 long balls, 39 RBI, 55 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 18 attempts across 411 plate appearances. Despite a crowded Mets infield, Villar has forced his way into the lineup consistently, primarily at third base but also sometimes at second base and shortstop to spell Francisco Lindor and Javier Baez.
