Impact The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the return of Carlos Rodon. Cortes is slated to face hitters this weekend and wouldn't seem to be too far off from a rehab assignment, but he now won't be eligible for activation until August 3. He has not suffered a setback, but rather he and the Yankees are just wanting to take things slowly.

Impact Rodon will make his long-awaited Yankees and season debut Friday against the Cubs following a long absence due to forearm and then back injuries. The left-hander threw just 58 pitches in his final rehab starts, so he'll be under some level of workload restriction Friday, although manager Aaron Boone declined to reveal exactly what that would be. Rodon signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Yankees over the offseason.

Luis Severino - Hit hard by Baltimore Severino (1-4) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and one walk over 2.2 innings against the Orioles. He struck out three.
Impact Thursday's outing was one to forget for Severino, who failed to get out of the third inning for the first time all year and tied his season high in earned runs. After surrendering a leadoff homer to Gunnar Henderson in the first, Severino held the Orioles scoreless until a disastrous third inning where he allowed three doubles before being pulled.
