Ron Marinaccio - Secures first saveMarinaccio picked up the save with a clean inning Thursday against the Blue Jays.
ImpactMarinaccio needed just seven pitches to retire the Blue Jays in the ninth inning and pick up his first save of the season. The Yankees closer role is up for grabs as six different players have converted a save. Wandy Peralta gave up a walk-off homer Wednesday. Michael King converted a save earlier this week, but threw 21 pitches Wednesday. Clay Holmes pitched in each of the previous two games. The more rested Marinaccio got the call and delivered. Marinaccio has a 4.74 ERA and 1.26 WHIP and would presumably not get regular save opportunities.

Bo Bichette - Crushes homer in three-hit nightBichette went 3-for-4 with a home run in Thursday's loss against the Yankees.
ImpactBichette popped a first-inning homer and picked up two singles off Nestor Cortes. Unfortunately he didn't have an at-bat with runners in scoring position. The shortstop is cruising with a .328 batting average and nine homers. The only downside of Bichette's season is his lack of steals. He has swiped one bag in 2023 after taking 38 in the previous two seasons combined.

Anthony Volpe - Slugs another homerVolpe went 1-for-2 with a home run in Thursday's win over the Blue Jays.
ImpactVolpe gave the Yankees an insurance run by smacking the foul pole in the ninth inning. Volpe cleared the fence just twice in April but has picked up the power numbers with five homers in May. The batting average still sits at a meager .215, but the shortstop has the third most homers and third most steals among rookies.

Nestor Cortes - Produces quality startCortes (4-2) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over six innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out six.
ImpactCortes rolled through the Toronto lineup posting his best start in over a month. The lefty hadn't completed six innings in his previous four starts. Despite the quality start, Cortes has allowed at least two runs in every start since his season debut back on April 3. After consecutive seasons with an ERA under 3.00, Cortes is sporting a 5.21 ERA in 2023.
