Expected to opt out Castellanos is expected to decline his $16 million player option with the Reds for 2022 and become a free agent, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Impact Picking up the option would also lock Castellanos with Cincinnati for 2023 at $16 million, and it's not much of a surprise he's set to test free agency after hitting .309/.362/.576 with 34 homers, 38 doubles, 100 RBI and 95 runs in 138 games during 2021. The Reds are apparently interested in bringing back the 29-year-old, but he should receive plenty of interest on the open market while coming off the most productive season of his career.
