Impact Heath was designated for assignment Saturday but will remain in the organization going forward. He's hit .143 with three runs and an RBI in 35 at-bats with the major-league club but has slashed .289/.385/.434 with two homers, 14 runs, 11 RBI and seven stolen bases across 19 Triple-A contests this year.

After the Diamondbacks traded Tim Locastro to the Yankees on Thursday, Heath moved up the depth chart in center, so the outfielder may get some spot starts while Ketel Marte (hamstring) on the injured list. Heath is 5-for-35 with 15 strikeouts since coming to Arizona in April. He had better numbers in the minors when getting more consistent playing time, but it looks like he'll have to make do with spotty usage in the majors.

Impact Heath has just one pinch hit at-bat and four appearances as a defensive replacement since being recalled June 23. After Arizona traded Tim Locastro to the Yankees on Thursday, Heath moved up the depth chart and could get the occasional start in center field while Ketel Marte (hamstring) remains sidelined. Pavin Smith is the primary fill-in for Marte, but Locastro made a couple of starts in center this past week, so it's logical Heath could see more opportunities at the dish. Heath is batting .156/.250/.188 over 36 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks.

The 27-year-old isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Brewers, and he should serve mainly as a depth option going forward.
