Set to pitch in minor-league game Syndergaard will make his first appearance of spring in a minor-league contest Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Impact Syndergaard recently stated that he has been able to throw without restrictions in bullpen sessions, but the Angels prefer to have him begin with a game against minor-leaguers so that they are better able to control his outing. The caution is reasonable considering that the right-hander is coming off a season during which he pitched only two major-league innings after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Syndergaard signed with the Angels on a one-year, $21 million contract last November.

Impact Syndergaard underwent Tommy John surgery in March of 2020 and didn't make it back to the big leagues until late September of last season. He ended up pitching only two innings for the Mets, but that was enough for the Angels to take a gamble on his arm and sign him to a $21 million contract in the offseason. Indications are that the right-hander is feeling strong out of the gate this spring, as he stated that he has been able to throw with "conviction" in live batting practice. Syndergaard has plenty of upside given the body of work he has posted in the past, but fantasy managers should be aware that pitchers coming off Tommy John surgery have historically experienced mixed results.
