Guaranteed Rate Field
Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, IL
Seth Brown - Getting day off vs. leftyBrown is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
ImpactBrown will take a seat with the Cubs sending a tough lefty (Shota Imanaga) to the hill for the series opener at Wrigley Field. Tyler Nevin will spell Brown in left field and bat eighth.
SEPTEMBER 16ROTOWIRE
Lawrence Butler - Day off MondayButler is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
ImpactTough left-hander Shota Imanaga is on the hill for the Cubs, so the Athletics will use Monday's game as an opportunity to give the left-handed-batting Butler a breather. Daz Cameron will play right field and Jacob Wilson will be elevated to the leadoff spot for the series opener.
SEPTEMBER 16ROTOWIRE
Yoán Moncada - Returns from 60-day ILThe White Sox activated Moncada (adductor) from the 60-day injured list Monday.
ImpactMoncada is finally ready to return to action after being sidelined since early April with an adductor strain. He hit .342/.413/.537 with one home run over 12 games after resuming a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte late last month. Moncada should be the primary third baseman for the White Sox down the stretch.
SEPTEMBER 16ROTOWIRE
Corey Julks - Sent to minorsThe White Sox optioned Julks to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.
ImpactHe'll give up his spot on the 28-man active roster to third baseman Yoan Moncada (adductor), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Since being acquired from the Astros in mid-May and reporting to Chicago, Julks produced a .581 OPS with three home runs and five stolen bases over 189 plate appearances with the White Sox. He mostly served as a short-side platoon player in the White Sox outfield, but Julks should get the chance to play on an everyday basis at Charlotte.
SEPTEMBER 16ROTOWIRE
Ky Bush - Recalled, shelved with tricep injuryThe White Sox recalled Bush from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday and placed him on the 15-day injured list with a left tricep strain, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ImpactChicago optioned Bush to Triple-A on Aug. 26, and despite making a one-inning start for Charlotte on Sept. 7, he'll revert to the big club's 15-day IL after suffering the injury in that outing. Given the timing of the injury, Bush is unlikely to be activated before the season ends Sept. 29. Bush made four starts for the White Sox prior to his demotion in late August, logging a 5.60 ERA and 2.04 WHIP while walking more batters (16) than he struck out (11) over 17.2 innings.
SEPTEMBER 16ROTOWIRE
Gavin Sheets - Homers in second straightSheets went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday against the Athletics.
ImpactSheets hasn't started frequently against lefties in the last few weeks, though he was at first base and hitting fifth against southpaw J.P. Sears on Sunday. He proceeded to take Sears deep in the first frame to tally his second homer of the season without the handedness advantage and 10th total of the campaign. Despite the productive stretch, Sheets has just a .131 ISO and .685 OPS across 477 plate appearances.
SEPTEMBER 16ROTOWIRE
Nick Allen - Swats pair of doubles SundayAllen went 2-for-4 with two doubles in a loss to the White Sox on Sunday.
ImpactDrawing only his second start in the last six games, Allen connected for his first extra-base hits at the big-league level since April 25. The 25-year-old infielder has been back up with the Athletics since late August, but he's drawn only 16 plate appearances across seven games overall since returning. Allen has made appearances at each infield position except first base this season, yet the good health the A's are enjoying down the stretch leave very few paths to playing time for him.
