Kemp, Brown, Murphy lead A's over Royals in 9-7 win

Tony Kemp hit a two-run homer, Seth Brown and Sean Murphy combined for four RBIs, and the Oakland Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 9-7

Seth Brown - Singles home only run FridayBrown went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a double in a loss to the Royals on Friday.
ImpactBrown extended his hitting streak to four games with Friday's multi-hit effort, his second over that span. Despite the recent surge, Brown has underachieved offensively overall like most of his teammates, as even his current surge has lifted his batting average and on-base percentage to only .217 and .280, respectively.

Tony Kemp - Singles, steals in Friday's lossKemp went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run in a loss to the Royals on Friday.
ImpactThe veteran was one of the few Oakland hitters to show a pulse at the plate. Kemp's steal was his fifth of the season, and he'd been hitless in his previous 16 plate appearances coming into Friday's game.

Cole Irvin - Takes fifth loss FridayIrvin (2-5) took the loss in a defeat at the hands of the Royals on Friday, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks while recording four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
ImpactIrvin once again pitched well enough to give his team a chance at victory, but Oakland's perpetually moribund offense put together yet another lackluster performance. The veteran left-hander rang up a solid 13 swinging strikes over his time on the hill and was essentially done in by Edward Olivares, who tagged him for a pair of solo home runs. Irvin's 3.29 ERA, when contrasted with his 2-5 record, is a testament to how much of a tough-luck season it's been for him thus far, and he'll hope for a turnaround in his fortunes when he takes the mound again in an unenviable matchup against the Yankees on Wednesday.

Andrew Benintendi - Three hits in win FridayBenintendi went 3-for-4 in Friday's 3-1 win over the Athletics.
ImpactBenintendi wasn't involved in any run-scoring plays, but he was one of two Royals to get on base multiple times. He's on a tear lately, going 12-for-36 (.333) in his last nine contests. The outfielder has maintained a solid batting line in 2022, slashing .302/.366/.395 in 287 plate appearances, but his counting stats are lacking. Benintendi has three home runs, one stolen base, 25 RBI and 27 runs scored despite regularly batting second in the Royals' lineup.
