Mitch Spence - Early exit in New YorkSpence allowed five runs on four hits over 2.2 innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Mets. He struck out one.
ImpactSpence allowed a run on a wild pitch in the second inning before surrendering four runs in the fourth, highlighted by Mark Vientos' two-run homer. However, the A's would rally to overcome the 5-0 deficit, getting Spence off the hook in an eventual 7-6 win. The 26-year-old Spence hadn't allowed more than two runs in any of his previous four starts, posting a 2.78 ERA in that span (22.2 innings). Overall, he's 7-8 on the year with a 4.64 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 87:34 K:BB across 108.2 innings. Spence will look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for next week at home against Tampa Bay.

Mark Vientos - Homers twice ThursdayVientos went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three total RBI in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the A's.
ImpactBatting out of the two-hole for the first time this year, Vientos certainly made a case to stay at the top of the order -- the third baseman launched a two-run homer off Mitch Spence in the third inning before adding a solo shot off Michel Otanez in the fourth. Vientos had cooled off a bit after a hot start to his season. Thursday's performance was his first multi-hit game since July 26 -- he'd gone 10-for-50 (.200) in his subsequent 15 contests. Still, it's been an impressive campaign overall for Vientos, who's established himself as a regular in the Mets' lineup. He's now slashing .275/.333/.557 through 288 plate appearances with 19 homers, 48 RBI and 38 runs scored.

Jose Quintana - Shaky vs. OaklandQuintana didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the A's, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out one.
ImpactQuintana struggled for most of Thursday's outing, though he'd manage to hold Oakland scoreless through three innings, despite loading the bases twice. However, the A's made the left-hander pay in the fourth, when JJ Bleday launched a grand slam following a pair of two-out walks. It's the third time in five starts that Quintana's issued four or more walks -- he's now allowed 12 runs over 15.2 innings in his last three outings. Overall, Quintana is 6-8 on the year with a 4.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 103:50 K:BB across 129 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, currently lined up for next week at home versus the Orioles.

JJ Bleday - Three hits, grand slam in winBleday went 3-for-5 with a grand slam, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Mets.
ImpactBleday filled up the box score Thursday, though his big hit came in the fourth inning when he launched a two-out grand slam of Jose Quintana to get Oakland on the board, cutting their deficit to 5-4 in the eventual comeback win. The 26-year-old Bleday's been hot at the plate for over two weeks now, going 19-for-53 (.358) with three homers, nine RBI and a 1.028 OPS in his last 15 games. Overall, he's slashing .249/.330/.449 with 15 homers, 45 RBI, 57 runs scored and one steal across 483 plate appearances this season.
AUGUST 15ROTOWIRE
Mason Miller - Locks down six-out saveMiller earned the save in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Mets, allowing one walk while striking out three over two scoreless innings.
ImpactMiller made quick work of the Mets in the eighth inning, setting them down in order while striking out a pair. Miller would return for the ninth where he'd face a bit more trouble, hitting Tyrone Taylor with a pitch before issuing a two-out walk to Jose Iglesias. However, he'd induce a flyout off the bat of Francisco Alvarez, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs on board, to seal the one-run A's victory. The 25-year-old Miller hasn't allowed a hit in four appearances (five innings) since returning from the IL. He's converted 18 of 20 save chances while posting a 1.97 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 114:32 K:BB across 79 innings this season.
