ImpactKlobosits was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Wednesday after posting a 5.56 ERA and 5:5 K:BB in 11.1 innings as a rookie last year. Luis Barrera was designated for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster. Klobosits is expected to report to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Luis Barrera - Loses 40-man spotThe Athletics designated Barrera for assignment Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

ImpactFormerly one of the top prospects in Oakland's system, Barrera has seen his standing in the organization take a hit since posting an .870 OPS at Double-A Midland in 2019. He received limited action with the big club in 2021 but otherwise turned in a pedestrian campaign at Triple-A Las Vegas, slashing .276/.348/.393 across 386 plate appearances while stealing 10 bases in 12 attempts. Barrera was expected to compete for a spot in Oakland's talent-deprived outfield in spring training, but he was late to camp due to visa issues and never made much of a run at a roster spot. Now 26 years old, the prospect luster has largely worn off on Barrera, who will lose his spot on the 40-man roster with Oakland bringing aboard reliever Gabe Klobosits in a corresponding move.

Domingo Acevedo - Impressive while getting first holdAcevedo was credited with his first hold of the season in Sunday's win over the Phillies, recording two strikeouts and issuing a walk over a scoreless seventh inning.

ImpactAcevedo needed 20 pitches to get through his one frame thanks in part to Rhys Hoskins drawing a walk in a six-pitch plate appearance, but the right-hander was otherwise effective and recorded a swinging strikeout of Nick Castellanos during his stint on the mound. Acevedo has already rang up four strikeouts across two innings in his first two appearances, an encouraging start after submitting a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in his first 10 big-league outings a season ago.

Lou Trivino - Allows run in non-save situationTrivino logged his first appearance of the season in Sunday's win over the Phillies, allowing a solo home run and recording a strikeout over one inning.

ImpactTrivino didn't have any save opportunties over the first two games of the series, so manager Mark Kotsay opted to give him some relatively low-leverage work Sunday. The right-hander promptly surrendered a solo home run to Jean Segura on his very first pitch of 2022, but he subsequently settled down to retire the dangerous trio of Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos and Rhys Hoskins in order. Given the caliber of some of the talent the A's have moved over the last several weeks, Trivino could find save opportunities sparse for stretches this season.
