Frankie Montas - Won't pitch this weekendMontas (shoulder) won't pitch against the Astros this weekend and will instead throw two side session before rejoining the Athletics' rotation for the first game of the second half...
ImpactRosenthal reported earlier Wednesday that the right-hander would pitch Saturday or Sunday in Houston, but there's instead been a change of plan. Montas hasn't seen game action since leaving his start in Seattle on July 3 after one inning, and it appears the shoulder soreness will sideline him until after the All-Star break.

Chad Pinder - On pace for best numbers since '19Pinder, who went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and an additional run in an extra-innings win over the Rangers on Tuesday, is on pace for his best home run and RBI numbers since 2019.
ImpactThe veteran utility man has rediscovered his power stroke by leaving the yard in back-to-back games after going well over a month without a homer, and the pair of round trippers has pushed him one over his 2021 season tally of six in 15 fewer games. Moreover, Pinder now needs just six homers over the Athletics' remaining 73 games to match his season totals from both 2018 and 2019, while his current tally of 24 RBI is a manageable 23 away from the career-best 47 he mustered during the latter campaign.

Zak Kent - Returns to Double-A rotationKent (undisclosed) has struck out three while scattering two hits and no walks over four scoreless innings in his two appearances for Double-A Frisco since being activated from the...
ImpactKent was on the shelf for about two and a half weeks with the undisclosed injury. Since the Rangers didn't send him to a lower-level affiliate for a rehab assignment prior to activating him, Kent has been getting stretched out on the fly during his starts with Frisco. He should need only one or two more outings before he's free of any major pitch-count restrictions in his starts.

Jonathan Hernández - Rehab assignment extendedThe Rangers transferred Hernandez's (elbow) rehab assignment from Triple-A Round Rock to Double-A Frisco on Wednesday.
ImpactAccording to Levi Weaver of The Athletic, the Rangers were granted a 10-day extension for Hernandez's assignment, which initially began June 3 with Round Rock. The 26-year-old is working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent last April and has looked sharp of late after a somewhat rocky start to his rehab assignment. Over his last 11 outings with Round Rock, Hernandez has struck out 12 over 10.1 innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and seven walks. Hernandez could handle a high-leverage role out of the Texas bullpen when he's likely activated from the 60-day injured list coming out of the All-Star break.

Kolby Allard - Demoted to Round RockThe Rangers optioned Allard to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.
ImpactWhile appearing in relief both of the past two days, Allard was pummeled for seven earned runs on five hits and one walk while recording only three outs. The Rangers called up A.J. Alexy from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday and will see if he can provide an upgrade over Allard as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen.
