Max Scherzer lets MLB world know exactly how he feels about substance checks
Stephen Piscotty - Receives cortisone injectionPiscotty received a cortisone injection for his sprained left wrist Tuesday and will not participate in baseball activities for a few days, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury New...
ImpactThe outfielder was placed on the 10-day injured list with the wrist issue Saturday. It sounds like he won't swing until the latter part of this week at the earliest, at which point the A's will determine his next steps. Piscotty is eligible to be reinstated June 29, though he may need additional time before returning. The 30-year-old was serving in the short side of a right field platoon with Seth Brown prior to the injury.

Trevor Rosenthal - Resumes baseball activitiesRosenthal (shoulder) resumed baseball activities Tuesday and could start a throwing program sometime later this week, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
ImpactRosenthal underwent thoracic outlet surgery April 8 and was placed on the 60-day injured list. The reliever began a strength program earlier in June and is now very close to starting to throw. Rosenthal still has many hurdles to jump before he's able to slot into the back end of the Oakland bullpen, but a mid-August return remains a decent possibility as of now.

Mike Fiers - Still feeling discomfortFiers (elbow) will see Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday after feeling elbow discomfort again Monday while throwing, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ImpactBoth of the righty's attempts to resume throwing have yielded the same, concerning results, so it's worth wondering whether he's nursing a more significant injury to his right elbow than just a sprain. There's been no such indication from the Athletics, but Fiers' visit to the renowned doctor should clarify his situation.

Tony Kemp - Not starting TuesdayKemp is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Rangers.
ImpactThe lefty-hitting Kemp has worked his way into the starting nine against some southpaws of late, but he'll sit for the beginning part of Tuesday's contest against lefty Taylor Hearn. Hearn is not expected to work deep into the contest, so Kemp should have a very strong chance of entering the game during the mid-to-late innings. Jed Lowrie will man second base with Mark Canha, Skye Bolt and Chad Pinder manning the outfield spots from left to right.

Brock Holt - Sitting against leftyHolt is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Athletics.
ImpactHolt will retreat to the bench against lefty Cole Irvin as Charlie Culberson takes over at the hot corner. He figures to be an option for Chris Woodward off the bench during the second game of the four-game set.

Andy Ibáñez - Remains in lineup TuesdayIbanez is in the starting lineup Tuesday against Oakland, batting fifth and playing first base.
ImpactIbanez was recalled Monday and immediately made an impact, taking Frankie Montas deep for a three-run homer in the first inning. He'll remain in the starting nine Tuesday, this time taking over for Nate Lowe at first base with the Athletics sending southpaw Cole Irvin to the mound.
