INJURIES

Could be set for more work Narvaez went 0-for-4 after replacing Francisco Alvarez (thumb) in the second inning of Friday's win over the Dodgers.
Impact Alvarez was headed for an MRI after the game, but per Tim Healey of Newsday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza is "pretty concerned" about the severity of the injury. As the only other catcher on the 40-man roster, Narvaez figures to see a big spike in his playing time should Alvarez land on the IL, but that may not result in much additional fantasy value -- since 2022, the 32-year-old sports a .208/.288/.300 slash line in 467 plate appearances with only six homers. Tomas Nido, who was in camp this spring as a non-roster invitee, is batting .345 (10-for-29) for Triple-A Syracuse and would likely be promoted to take Alvarez's spot, but his career numbers in the majors aren't any better than Narvaez's performance the last few years.

Set to back up Alvarez Narvaez will open the season as the Mets' No. 2 catcher behind Francisco Alvarez.
Impact This was the expected role for Narvaez after he played 49 games in 2023 during his first season with New York, slashing a weak .211/.283/.297 with only two homers and seven RBI. The 32-year-old's days as a fantasy asset are behind him, and even if Alvarez were to get hurt, Narvaez would likely split work behind the plate with Tomas Nido, who will begin the season with Triple-A Syracuse.
MARCH 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Gets starting nod in series opener Narvaez will start at catcher and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Rangers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact Narvaez will pick up his second start in three games while No. 1 backstop Francisco Alvarez rests. The Mets have suggested that the 22-year-old Alvarez could have his catching workload managed down the stretch, so Narvaez could end up moving into more a timeshare behind the plate in September rather than serving as a clear No. 2 option. Narvaez is slashing .205/.294/.341 with one home run, three RBI and four runs in 16 games since the All-Star break.
AUGUST 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Launches first homer Narvaez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the White Sox.
Impact Narvaez got the Mets on the board in the fifth inning with a solo homer off Michael Kopech, his first of the year, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Narvaez had been struggling at the plate while shifting to a backup role behind Francisco Alvarez -- he'd gone just 1-for-19 over his previous 11 games. Overall, the 31-year-old Narvaez is slashing just .209/.294/.279 with six runs scored and four RBI through 51 plate appearances.
JULY 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Activated from injured list Narvaez was activated from the 60-day injured list Monday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Impact Narvaez is finally ready to roll after missing the past two months with a severe calf strain. Francisco Alvarez has seized the Mets' starting catcher job, but Narvaez should still play a decent amount.
JUNE 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Shifting rehab to Triple-A Mets manager Buck Showalter said Narvaez (calf) will move his rehab assignment from High-A Brooklyn to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact Showalter added that Narvaez is on pace to return from the 60-day injured list at the beginning of next week, when the backstop is first eligible for activation. Narvaez opened the season as the Mets' No. 1 catcher but played in just five games before suffering a left calf strain. He's since gotten two rehab games under his belt and will make a few more appearances for Syracuse this week, but Narvaez may have to settle for the No. 2 role once he's activated with Francisco Alvarez having provided the Mets with a major spark on offense since he was called up from Triple-A.
MAY 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
To begin rehab games Thursday Narvaez (calf) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment Thursday with High-A Brooklyn, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Narvaez will probably remain at Brooklyn through the weekend before advancing to Triple-A Syracuse. He needs a lot of rehab at-bats because he's been out since early April due to a severe calf strain, but the 31-year-old catcher is pushing for a return to the Mets around early-to-mid June. It'll be a complicated situation in Queens if Francisco Alvarez, Gary Sanchez and Tomas Nido are all healthy and performing well at that juncture.
MAY 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Poised to begin rehab stint Narvaez (calf) expects to begin a rehab assignment by the end of the week, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Impact Rookie Francisco Alvarez is rapidly improving and seems to be locking down a significant role behind the dish for the Mets, so Narvaez could find himself competing with Tomas Nido (vision issues) for one roster spot when both backstops are healthy again. Narvaez played only five games this season before suffering a significant calf strain in early April that landed him on the 60-day IL.
MAY 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Assignment coming next week Narvaez (calf) will begin a rehab assignment next week, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Narvaez has been sidelined with a strained left calf since early April but is now nearing the point where he can return to game action. It's unclear how long the Mets plan on keeping him on assignment, but we'll likely know more as he recovers.
MAY 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Moved to 60-day IL Narvaez (calf) was transferred Thursday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Impact Narvaez still has at least five more weeks of rest and rehab for the medium-to-high grade calf strain that he suffered in early April. Francisco Alvarez has taken over as the Mets' primary catcher with Tomas Nido backing him up.

Mets call up top prospect Álvarez from minors; Narváez on IL

Touted prospect Francisco Álvarez has been recalled by the New York Mets from Triple-A Syracuse before their home opener against the Miami Marlins
APRIL 7, 2023 • Associated Press
Placed on 10-day IL Narvaez was placed on the 10-day injured list by the Mets on Friday, retroactive to April 6, with a left calf strain.
Impact Narvaez has been diagnosed with a medium-to-high grade strain and is expected to be sidelined 8-9 weeks, putting him on the shelf until at least June. Francisco Alvarez has been summoned to fill his roster spot and will share time at catcher with Tomas Nido.

Mets reportedly calling up top prospect Francisco Álvarez
Mets C Omar Narvaez (calf strain) out 8-9 weeks New York Mets starting catcher Omar Narvaez is expected to miss 8-to-9 weeks with a high-grade strain of his left calf.
APRIL 6, 2023 • NEWSOBSERVER.COM
Has severe calf strain Narvaez has been diagnosed with a medium-to-high grade strain of his left calf and is expected to miss 8-to-9 weeks.
Impact Narvaez suffered the injury during Wednesday's game against the Brewers and will officially be placed on the injured list ahead of the Mets' home opener Friday versus the Marlins. Francisco Alvarez is already on his way to New York and figures to share time at catcher with Tomas Nido while also drawing starts at DH. If the estimated timeline proves to be accurate, Narvaez won't be an option again before mid-June.
APRIL 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Could be headed to IL Narvaez (calf) could be headed to the 10-day injured list, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
Impact Narvaez was sent for imaging scans after making an early exit from Wednesday's game against the Brewers due to discomfort in his left calf. Martino notes that top prospect Francisco Alvarez has already been summoned to New York and could be active at catcher for the Mets' rescheduled home opener Friday versus the Marlins.
APRIL 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Exits game with calf injury Narvaez was removed from Wednesday's game in Milwaukee with a left calf injury, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Narvaez felt something in the calf during his last plate appearance and was taken out for defense in the final frame. He'll be examined but is being referred to as day-to-day for now. If Narvaez winds up having to miss some time, it could clear the way for a Francisco Alvarez promotion.
APRIL 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out of lineup Tuesday Narvaez is not in the Mets' starting lineup Tuesday.
Impact Tomas Nido will get a turn at catcher and bat ninth against the Brewers and left-hander Wade Miley. This looks to be a routine day of rest for Narvaez.

APRIL 3, 2023 • Associated Press
On bench versus lefty Narvaez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact Narvaez is 3-for-7 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored, but he'll take a seat Sunday with lefty Trevor Rogers on the mound for Miami. Tomas Nido will work behind the plate in the series finale, batting eighth.
APRIL 2, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Friday Narvaez is not listed in the Mets' lineup Friday against Miami, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact After going 1-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's season opener, Narvaez will sit down Friday against fellow lefty Jesus Luzardo. In his place, Tomas Nido will start behind the dish and bat ninth.
MARCH 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Smacks first spring homer Narvaez went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays.
Impact The sixth-inning shot off Kyle Crick was the catcher's first homer of the spring. Narvaez will split time behind the plate with Tomas Nido this season -- at least until top prospect Francisco Alvarez is deemed ready. After a slow start to his spring prior to leaving for the WBC, Narvaez is now batting .300 (6-for-20).
