Inks minors deal with Yankees The Yankees signed Reyes to a minor-league contract Monday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact The 31-year-old utility player hit .287/.339/.377 as a part-timer in Boston in 2023 but slashed only .183/.234/.217 between the Red Sox and Mets in 2024. Reyes has started a game at every position on the diamond other than catcher and pitcher, so he will bring plenty of versatility to the table as a depth piece for the Yankees.

Handed outright assignment The Mets outrighted Reyes to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact The Mets DFA'd Reyes on Monday and the shortstop cleared waivers, opening up the opportunity for him to remain in the Mets organization. The 30-year-old was traded from Boston to New York in May, but he's yet to log an at-bat for the Metropolitans.

Impact Reyes was with the Mets for one week and appeared in just one game as a pinch runner. He's being replaced on the roster by fellow utility player Eddy Alvarez.

Impact Reyes has seen action at all four infield spots as well as right field between his time in the minors and his brief run in the big leagues with the Red Sox this season, so he'll provide the Mets with some versatility off the bench down the stretch. The 30-year-old utility man is unlikely to receive regular at-bats, however.

Impact Reyes pinch hit for second baseman Enmanuel Valdez against a left-hander in the seventh inning and ripped a sinker down and away to right field for a single. That put a pair of runners on base for Bobby Dalbec, who struck out to end the inning. It marked the second straight game Reyes pinch hit for Valdez against a lefty and went on to finish the game at second.
