Impact Wisdom had missed the Cubs' last two games with a sore right wrist, but that doesn't seem to be the reason behind his shutdown. Since the Cubs selected Trent Giambrone's contract from Triple-A Iowa, Wisdom was most likely placed on the COVID-19-related IL, which would open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Giambrone. While Wisdom could have an outside chance to be reinstated at some point before the Cubs' final four games of the campaign if his placement on the IL was precautionary rather than the result of a positive test, his 2021 campaign is most likely over. The 30-year-old should earn some National League Rookie of the Year votes after he hit .231 with 28 home runs, 61 RBI, 54 runs and four stolen bases across 374 plate appearances for Chicago.
